In a First, Six Women Officers Clear Defence Services Staff Course Exam
For the first time, six women officers cleared the prestigious Defence Services Staff Course (DSSC) and Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC) exam, which is held every September.
Four of these officers will undergo a one-year course at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Tamil Nadu, alongside their male counterparts from all three services.
The women officers will be imparted training and orientation on operational, military intelligence, operational logistics and administrative aspects of staff appointments.
The prestigious Staff Course gives adequate weightage while being considered for command appointments.
Among the remaining two women officers, one is on the reserve list of Defence Services Technical Staff Course and the other is shortlisted for Administration and Logistics Management Course (ALMC)/Intelligence Staff Course (ISC).

AIIMS Delhi to Introduce 'Smart Card' Facility at Counters for Patients
In a bid to make payments easy for patients, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, will start the 'AIIMS Smart Card' facility in collaboration with the State Bank of India.
The AIIMS Finance Division, in collaboration with the SBI, will introduce 'AIIMS Smart Card' facility from April 1, 2023.
The premier health organisation said that this service shall be seamlessly integrated with the existing billing facility in the hospital as well as arrangements shall be made for installing payment end points at multiple locations within AIIMS including in all patient care areas, cafeteria, etc.

Women Can Apply to Certain Branches of Indian Navy University: Centre
The Centre informed Delhi High Court that women are now welcome to apply to certain branches of the Indian Navy University.
The executive branch's general service (X) cadre, IT, and the engineering and electrical branch are now hiring female candidates through the Indian Navy University Entry Scheme, the High Court was informed.
A panel of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad disposed of fa petition that asked for the admission of female candidates to some branches of the Indian Navy University where female entrance was previously prohibited after taking note of the Centre's arguments.

IIT Kanpur Inks Pact with Rice University of USA to Enrich Academic and Research Collaboration
The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and William Marsh Rice University, USA signed a cooperation agreement. IIT Kanpur already has an on-campus Rice-IITK Collaborative Centre working in the areas of sustainable energy, materials, water, alternative fuels, etc.
This new agreement offers the two universities newer avenues to work towards collaborative teaching, training, and research in areas of mutual interest. As part of this agreement, IIT Kanpur and Rice University will explore opportunities for student exchange activities; joint research and publications; and organizing joint conferences and workshops that involve scholars, policymakers, and business leaders from around the world.
Pankaj R. Patel is New Chairperson of IIM Ahmedabad
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) appointmented Pankaj R. Patel as the new Chairperson of its Board of Governors.
Chairman of Zydus Lifesciences Ltd, Patel succeeded Kumar Mangalam Birla, who completed his four-year term. Patel is the fourteenth Chairperson of the IIMA since its inception in 1961. Patel has been a member of the IIMA Board of Governors for eight years.
Zydus Lifesciences Ltd is a discovery-driven, global life sciences company with operations in 55 countries.
Patel was also appointed as the part-time non-official director in the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India. He is on the Governing Board of IIM Udaipur; Invest India and India Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. He is also a member of the CEO Advisory Committee of International Generics and Biosimilars Association (IGBA).

Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Finale: Port Blair Girls, Hyderabad and Bengaluru Boys Bag Top 3 Spots
Samsung announced the top three winners of the inaugural edition of Solve for Tomorrow in India, its national education and innovation competition that aims to support youth from around the country wanting to solve real life issues and transform people's lives with their innovative ideas.
Solve for Tomorrow is a CSR initiative by Samsung.
The top three winning teams – Sputnik Brain, Udaan, and Alpha Monitor – got a total grant of INR 1 crore and a 6-month incubation by the Foundation for Innovation & Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi, to strengthen their prototypes, and seek real-world consumer validation for their products and services.
Each of the winning teams received a certificate and a beautiful Solve for Tomorrow trophy that is inspired by the program logo and expresses boldness and aspiration. Each team member also received exciting Samsung products – a Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 laptop and Samsung Galaxy Buds2. The winning teams also got an 85-inch Samsung Flip interactive digital board each for their respective school or college.
Punjab Govt. Decides to Name Schools after Freedom Fighters
Government schools in Punjab will be named after martyrs and freedom fighters, School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said. Village panchayats and the school management committees have been asked to pass resolutions for schools to be renamed.
They will then send the same to the state headquarters within the next month through principals, along with the biographical notes about the martyrs and freedom fighters.
Bains said the decision has been taken so that future generations get to know about the sacrifices of martyrs and freedom fighters for the country.
UGC Asks Higher Education Institutions to Adopt 'Professors of Practice' Guidelines
The University Grants Commission (UGC) asked higher education institutions across the country to initiate necessary steps to engage professionals and industry experts as 'professors of practice' in their respective institutes.
The higher education regulator in August had approved the draft guidelines for engaging 'professor of practice' in Universities and colleges. According to the guidelines, those eligible to be engaged as 'professor of practice' include distinguished experts who have made remarkable contributions in their professions from various fields such as engineering, science, technology, entrepreneurship, commerce, social sciences, media, literature, fine arts, civil services, armed forces, legal profession and public administration among others.
UGC chairperson M. Jagadesh Kumar said that the 'professor of practice' position provides a unique opportunity to the educational institutes to bring diverse skills to complement efforts of faculty members of the institutions.
