Tamil Writer Imayam Selected for Kuvempu National Award

  • Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Prathishtana Kuppali selected Tamil poet V. Annamalai aka Imayam for the Kuvempu National award for the year 2022 at the Kuvempu's 118th birth anniversary program on December 29 at Kuppali in Thirthahalli taluk. 'Kannada National Poet Kwembu Rashtriya Puraskar Award is presented annually in memory of the late poet Kwembu. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh, a silver medal and a citation.
  • Annamalai writes in the pen name Imayam and has penned seven novels, six short story collections, and a novella. His debut novel 'Koveru Kazhudaigal has been translated into English, French, and many other Indian languages. Imayam has brought new sensibilities to Tamil literature through his writings. His novels Koveru Kazhudaigal and Pethavan, have been translated into English and several other languages.

VP Jageep Dhankhar Confers Shilp Guru and National Awards

  • Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar gave away Shilp Guru and National Awards to master craftspersons for 2017, 2018, and 2019 at a function in New Delhi. These awards are conferred every year to legendary master craftspersons of handicrafts whose work has contributed to the preservation of the rich and diverse craft heritage of the country. The main objective of the award is to give recognition to outstanding craftspersons in the handicrafts sector. The awardees represent almost all states and Union Territories of the country, as well as different craft styles of different locations.

CSMVS, Byculla Railway Station Wins UNESCO Award for Conservation

  • The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) won the highest award of excellence in the UNESCO Asia Pacific awards 2022 for cultural heritage conservation.
  • The Byculla railway station of Central Railway received an award of merit for conservation, giving a double pride moment to the people of Mumbai city.
  • The CSMVS, which is part of the Victorian gothic and art deco ensembles of Mumbai World Heritage property in India, got the award as it impressively restored 'a major civic institution in the historic city of Mumbai'. The jury of the UNESCO Asia Pacific awards 2022 noted, "The project addressed extensive deterioration through well-informed architectural and engineering solutions, overcoming major challenges during the pandemic."
  • The museum is a major landmark in the Kala Ghoda Art precinct, in South Mumbai, formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India and is one of the premier art and history museums in India. The museum is an autonomous institution unaided by the government but supported by public-private partnerships.

Innovator Sonam Wangchuk Bags Seventh Dr. Paulos Mar Gregorios Award

  • Sonam Wangchuk, the Ladakh-based engineer whose life inspired a character in Bollywood blockbuster "3 Idiots", was awarded the seventh Dr. Paulos Mar Gregorios Award by former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.
  • Instituted by the Sophia Society of the Malankara (Indian) Orthodox Church, the award is given every alternate year in the memory of the first Metropolitan of Delhi Diocese and noted philosopher Dr. Paulos Mar Gregorios.
  • The award was presented during a function at St Thomas School in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad.
  • Born in Uleytokpo, near Alchi of Leh district, Wangchuk has also won Ramon Magsasay award for his community-driven reform of learning systems in remote northern India, thus improving the life opportunities of Ladakhi youth.

128 Artists to Receive Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards for 2019, 2020, 2021

  • The Sangeet Natak Akademi announced the list of 10 Akademi fellows and 128 artists who will receive the prestigious Akademi Puraskar for 2019, 2020 and 2021.
  • The National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama elects eminent personalities in the field of performing arts as Akademi Fellows.
  • The fellows are: Bharatnatyam dancer Saroja Vaidyanathan, Kathakali exponent Sadanam Krishnan Kutty, Manipuri dancer Darshana Jhaveri, classical vocalist Chhannu Lal Mishra, Carnatic clarinet player AKC Natarajan, tabla player Swapan Chaudhuri, classical singer Malini Rajurkar, Carnatic and Hindustani musician TV Gopalakrishnan, folk singer Teejan Bai, and musicologist Bharat Gupt.
  • The fellowship of the Akademi is the most prestigious and rare honour, which is restricted to 40 at any given time.
  • The general council of Sangeet Natak Akademi also selected 128 artists from the field of Music, Dance, Theatre, Traditional/Folk/Tribal Music/Dance/Theatre, Puppetry and Overall contribution/scholarship in the performing arts for the Akademi Puraskar for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021.

GoI Announces Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards 2021

  • The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India announced the National Adventure Award called "Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award" (TNNAA) for the year 2021. The award is given in four categories which are Land Adventure, Water Adventure, Air Adventure, and Life Time Achievement.
  • President Droupadi Murmu gave away the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards for the year 2021, at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
  • Group Capitan Bhawani Singh Samyal was conferred with Life time Achievement award, Shubham Dhananjay Vanmali with Water Adventure, and Naina Dhakad with Land Adventure.

Ravi Kumar Sagar Honoured with the Prestigious Dr. Kalam Seva Puraskar

  • Ravi Kumar Sagar, one of the youngest founders and CEO of RK'S INNO Group was conferred with the most prestigious Dr. Abdul Kalam Seva Puraskar. The award was presented to him for his persistent service to society and is one of the youngest entrepreneurs in India. A young entrepreneur from the twin Telugu states, Ravi Kumar Sagar also known as RK'S nailed it as a budding entrepreneur during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
  • Dr. Kalam Seva Purasakar is hosted every year by Vandhe Bharat Foundation and LeadIndia Foundation to commemorate the birth anniversary of the late former President of India Dr. APJ Adul Kalam. The award is conferred to the deserving candidates on the birth anniversary of Dr. Kalam for recognizing various people who have been doing extraordinary work for society.
