Two Indo-Canadian academics Honoured with Order of Canada

  • Two Indo-Canadian academics, working on research to advance the betterment of mankind, were honoured with one of the country's most prestigious awards, the Order of Canada.
  • Their names were in the list published by the office of the governor-general of Canada Mary Simon. Both were invested into the Order as a Member.
  • They are professors Ajay Agrawal and Parminder Raina.
  • The Order of Canada was created in 1967 by Queen Elizabeth II, Canada's Head of State, to honour people "whose service shapes our society, whose innovations ignite our imaginations, and whose compassion unites our communities".
  • Agrawal was selected for his visionary leadership as an educator and entrepreneur, and for his mentorship of students and aspiring business owners.
  • Raina was selected for his leading research in ageing and population health in Canada and for his impact on national policymaking in geriatric care services.

Indian Start-up IG Drones Wins Global Airwards Best Drone Organisation Award

  • The Delhi-based leading Drone enterprise platform company IG Drones was felicitated with the "Best Drone Organization – Start-up Category" by Airwards. IG Drones was selected for the award for its approach of helping local communities and giving access to technology to various stakeholders during natural disasters and calamities.
  • Airwards is the first panoptic global awards programme of its kind dedicated to identifying, recognising and championing the breadth of positive drone use cases from around the world which are innovative, safe and having a real-world impact.

Poet Ram Darash Mishra Gets Saraswati Samman for 'Mein to Yahan Hun'

  • Eminent Hindi poet and litterateur Prof Ram Darash Mishra was conferred the Saraswati Samman for 2021 for his collection of poems "Mein to Yahan Hun", which covers a gamut of social issues and societal concerns.
  • Instituted in 1991 by KK Birla Foundation, the Saraswati Samman is one of the most prestigious literary awards in the country. It is given annually to an outstanding literary work published during the past 10 years by an Indian citizen in any language included in Schedule VIII of the Constitution. It carries a cash prize of Rs. 15 lakh, a citation, and a plaque.
  • Born in Dumri village in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district on August 15, 1924, Mishra excelled in different branches of Hindi literature. In a career spanning decades, he has to his credit 32 collections of poems, 15 novels, 30 short stories, 15 books of literary criticism, four collections of essays, travelogues, and several memoirs.

Saudi Arabia Confers General Qamar Javed Bajwa with King Abdulaziz Medal

  • Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa was conferred with the prestigious King Abdulaziz Medal for his contributions to defence cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
  • During his official visit to the kingdom, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conferred General Bajwa with the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Class for his "distinguished efforts in consolidating and strengthening bonds of friendship and joint cooperation and developing Saudi-Pakistani relations".
  • Both sides agreed upon enhancing defence cooperation in the fields of joint training, air defence, counter-terrorism and communication and information domain.

Vijay Amritraj Honoured with 2021 Golden Achievement Award

  • Indian tennis great Vijay Amritraj was named the 2021 recipient of the Golden Achievement Award by the International Tennis Hall of Fame and International Tennis Federation.
  • In recognition of his outstanding impact on tennis as a player, promoter, and humanitarian, Amritraj was honoured in London.
  • The Golden Achievement Award is selected from a pool of nominations submitted by tennis federations and individuals from the around the world. The annual honouree is selected by the Golden Achievement Award Committee, which is comprised of tennis administrators.
  • Amritraj is first recipient from India and he joins an esteemed list of tennis leaders who have received the honour, including Brian Tobin of Australia, Eiichi Kawatei of Japan, and Peachy Kellmeyer of the United States.

S.M. Krishna, Narayana Murthy, Prakash Padukone Selected for Kempegowda Award

  • Former Karnataka chief minister S. M. Krishna, Infosys founder and IT industry veteran N. R. Narayana Murthy, and former badminton player Prakash Padukone, were selected for the 'Kempegowda International Award', which was instituted beginning this year.
  • Karnataka Higher Education Minister C. N. Ashwath Narayan, who is also the Vice-President of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Heritage Area Development Authority, made an announcement to this effect. Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai presented the awards to recipients during the grand celebration on the 513th birth anniversary of Kempegowda, the architect of Bengaluru city, on June 27 at Vidhana Soudha.
  • All the three achievers have contributed in their own unique way for the development of Bengaluru and the fame it has garnered. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh along with a plaque.

National Logistics Excellence Awards

  • First National Logistics Excellence Awards was hosted by Government of India in New Delhi. Union Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of state for Commerce and Industry Som Parkash presented awards in 12 categories.
  • National Logistics Excellence Awards were presented with the aim of acknowledging many logistics service providers in India that were able to display innovation, efficiency and diversity.
  • The first edition comprised of 169 entries and 12 categories for awards.
  • Commerce and Industries Ministry undertook a year-long process to identify, categorise, and select qualified applications.
  • An expert screening committee, comprising of 18 diverse experts as well as a national jury of 9 senior dignitaries was created to make final deliberations.
  • Best Cargo Airline & Terminal Operator award was given to FedEx Express Transportation and Supply Chain Services (India)
  • Best Road Freight Service Provider award was given to DHL Supply Chain India
  • Best Rail Freight Service Provider award was given to Adani Logistics
  • Best Shipping & NVOCC service Provider award was given to Maersk India
  • The National Logistics Excellence Awards was launched on July 19, 2021, in a bid to turn spotlight on the logistics sector. It was instituted to provide due recognition to various players involved in logistics supply chain in India.

Tata Aerospace is Boeing 'Supplier of the Year'

  • Tata Aerospace & Defence was recognised by The Boeing Company (Boeing) with the coveted award of "Supplier of the Year." The Indian company was amongst nine suppliers that were awarded out of more than 11,000 suppliers worldwide.
  • The award was given to a supplier who contributes to Boeing's success by sharing risk and through long-term relationships that support and advance our strategic objectives.
  • Boeing announced that, for the first time, it recognised firms for "proactively managing supply chain quality, readiness and health and delivering on Boeing's commitment to advance global sustainability."

Odisha's Mo Bus Wins the Prestigious UN Public Service Awards

  • Mo Bus, Odisha-based public transport service was honored with a prestigious United Nations award, for their role and efforts in helping the world recover better from Covid19. The public transport service has been recognised for its role in "promoting gender-responsive public services to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)", the UN said.
  • Among the other winners of this year's awards, announced by Liu Zhenmin, United Nations Under Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs during a virtual event were public service initiatives from Thailand, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Panama, the Philippines, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Ukraine.
  • As per reports, Bhubaneswar Puri Transport Services was created in 2010 with a mandate to manage and operate the bus services on intra-city as well as inter-city routes in Bhubaneswar and between Bhubaneshwar, Puri, Cuttack and Khurda.
