Manika Vishwakarma Wins Miss Universe India 2025

Manika Vishwakarma was crowned the winner of the Miss Universe India 2025 at a grand ceremony held in Jaipur, Rajasthan. She succeeded Rhea Singha.
With this victory, Manika, from Rajasthan, will now represent India at the 74^th Miss Universe pageant scheduled to take place in Thailand in November. The first runner-up title went to Tanya Sharma from Uttar Pradesh, while Mehak Dhingra from Haryana was declared the second runner-up.

Veteran Hindi and Marathi Actor Achyut Potdar Passes Away

Veteran Marathi actor Achyut Potdar, who was regular in Hindi films, died. He was 91.
In a career spanning more than four decades, Potdar acted in over 125 films across Hindi and Marathi cinema. His filmography made a balance between commercially successful and critically acclaimed titles.
He was widely popular for his role as a strict professor in Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots. He had an illustrious career in television as well.

Australia Cricket Giant Bob Simpson Passes Away

Former Australian captain and coach Bob Simpson passed away aged 89. A legendary figure in the rise of Australia's modern-day dominance, Simpson's Test career spanned more than two decades after he made a stunning return to lead the national side in his forties.
Simpson played 62 Tests and two ODIs between 1957 and 1978, amassing 4869 Test runs alongside 71 wickets. In the 39 Tests he captained, Australia won 12.
Following his retirement in 1978, Simpson took over as Australia's first full-time coach between 1986 and 1996, ushering in a band of legendary cricketers and leading the country to their first-ever World Cup triumph in 1987.

Nagaland Governor La Ganesan No More

Nagaland incumbent Governor La Ganesan passed away at the age of 80.
La Ganesan began his political journey as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where he played a key role in expanding the party's presence in Tamil Nadu. He served briefly as a Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh, reflecting his national political footprint.
In August 2021, he was appointed as the Governor of Manipur, a post he held until February 2023, when he was shifted to Nagaland Raj Bhavan as its constitutional head. Throughout his governorship, he remained committed to promoting peace, development, and cultural integration in the Northeast.

Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren Passes Away

Jharkhand incumbent Education Minister Ramdas Soren died. He was 62.
A grassroots leader and a senior face of the JMM, Soren was extremely popular among the tribal community and party workers.

Former India Hockey Player Vece Paes Passes Away

Former India hockey player Vece Paes, a member of the 1972 Munich Olympic Games bronze-winning Indian hockey team and father of legendary tennis player Leander Paes, died at the age of 80. Paes was also part of the Indian men's hockey that won the bronze medal at the 1971 Hockey World Cup in Barcelona.

Former J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik Passes Away at 79

Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik passed away at the age of 79 after a prolonged illness. Malik, a veteran politician, played a key role during one of the most crucial phases in Jammu and Kashmir's history, including the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
Satya Pal Malik began his political journey in the 1970s as a socialist leader. He initially represented the Bharatiya Kranti Dal under Charan Singh's leadership and was elected as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1974 from Baghpat. His career later saw him holding senior positions, including General Secretary of the Lok Dal. Malik also served two terms in the Rajya Sabha, first in 1980 and then in 1989, with his second tenure as a Congress MP.
Malik was appointed as the last Governor of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2018. His tenure became historically significant when, on August 5, 2019, the Indian government abrogated Article 370, ending the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The move, considered one of the most decisive steps in India's political landscape, took place during Malik's governorship.

Former Romanian President Ion Iliescu Dies

Former Romanian President Ion Iliescu, who presided over the country's chaotic transition from communism to democracy, died aged 95.
Iliescu was Romania's first freely elected President, and served twice, between 1990-1996 and 2000-2004. He was accused of crimes against humanity over the violent revolt that toppled Romania's communist regime in 1989, but always denied wrongdoing.
