Vedic Maths to be Added to NCERT Textbooks for Classes 6 to 8 in Uttar Pradesh
In a new step towards revamping school education, the Uttar Pradesh government announced that Vedic Mathematics will be introduced in NCERT textbooks for Classes 6 to 8 starting the 2025-26 academic session. This new addition will apply to all government-run schools in the state.
Vedic maths, known for its quick and simple calculation techniques, will now be formally part of the school curriculum. It's being introduced as a way to sharpen students' numerical skills, reduce fear of maths, and bring Indian knowledge systems back into the mainstream -- just as the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) envisioned.
IIM Jammu 5th among 21 IIMs to Secure Two International Accreditations
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu became one of the few Indian B-schools to earn two prestigious global accreditations in the same academic year. The institute secured a five-year institutional accreditation from the Business Graduates Association (BGA) and a three-year programme accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) for its flagship MBA programme.
This double recognition places IIM Jammu among the top five IIMs out of 21 to hold both BGA and EFMD accreditations, a rare feat for a second-generation institution.

IIT Bombay, IIM Rohtak Named in UGC's Anti-Ragging Defaulter List
In a major step to protect students, the University Grants Commission (UGC) listed 89 colleges and universities across India for not following anti-ragging rules. The list includes top institutions like four IITs, three IIMs, and other leading national institutes.
The IITs flagged for non-compliance are IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Palakkad. The IIMs in question include IIM Bombay, IIM Rohtak, and IIM Tiruchirappalli. Others on the list include AIIMS Raebareli and the National Institute of Design (NID) campuses in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, and Haryana.
The UGC issued show-cause notices to these institutions for not submitting the required anti-ragging undertakings from both students and the institutions themselves, despite repeated advisories, follow-up calls from the Anti-Ragging Helpline, and interventions by the Anti-Ragging Monitoring Agency.
UP Government Renames Five State Engineering Colleges
The Uttar Pradesh government renamed five state-run engineering colleges after national personalities and historical figures, aiming to reshape the technical education landscape with a focus on cultural and moral values.
The move, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and approved by Governor Anandiben Patel, seeks to integrate technical education with ideals such as social awareness, justice, harmony and nation-building.
Rajkiya Engineering College, Pratapgarh was renamed Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Rajkiya Engineering College; Rajkiya Engineering College, Mirzapur to Samrat Ashoka Rajkiya Engineering College and Rajkiya Engineering College, Basti will now be known as Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rajkiya Engineering College.
The Rajkiya Engineering College, Gonda was renamed Maa Pateshwari Devi Rajkiya Engineering College and Rajkiya Engineering College, Mainpuri will now be called Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Rajkiya Engineering College.
DU, University of Leeds Sign MoU to Expand Academic Collaboration
The University of Leeds (UoL), UK, and the University of Delhi (DU), India, formalised a strategic academic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to enhance collaborative research, facilitate faculty and student exchange, and promote capacity-building initiatives between the two institutions.
The MoU outlines a framework for a long-term academic relationship covering joint research projects, academic events, co-teaching opportunities, and access to shared learning platforms. CBSE Introduces Biannual Board Exams for Class 10 from 2026-27
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced that Class 10 students will be allowed to appear for board exams twice a year starting from the 2026-27 academic session. While the first exam will remain mandatory, students who pass it will be given the option to improve their scores in up to three academic subjects through a second, optional examination. This significant shift aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
First Exam (Mandatory): Held in mid-February.
Second Exam (Optional): Held in May, only for students who pass the first exam.
Students may opt to reappear in up to 3 subjects from core areas: Science, Maths, Social Science, and two language papers.
Best of the two scores will be considered for the final mark sheet.

Nine New Medical Colleges to Come up in Odisha
The Odisha government unveiled plans to establish nine new medical institutions across the state, aiming to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure and improve access to medical education. The announcement was made by Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling during the Healthcare Summit 2025, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Out of the nine institutions, four will be MBBS colleges located in Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, and Nabarangpur districts. These colleges are expected to offer 100 seats each and will help address the shortage of doctors in underserved regions of the state.
In addition to the MBBS colleges, the state will also set up four dental colleges in Burla, Berhampur, Bolangir, and Keonjhar. An Ayurvedic medical institute will be launched in Mayurbhanj district, providing opportunities in alternative medicine and traditional healthcare systems.
