World Peace and Understanding Day

World Peace and Understanding Day is celebrated worldwide on February 23 each year. This day is celebrated to promote peace, empathy and cooperation between people of various origins and cultures. It is also celebrated to remind each person to live with respect and figure out how to regard every person of a different character or culture.
In 1905, Paul P. Harris assembled a meeting with three of his friends in Chicago. This was the first meeting for the development of Rotary International. In 1910, the first Rotary Clubs in America were founded, mainly in Seattle, San Francisco, Oakland, and in Los Angeles.
The club soon spread to the world and became one of the significant associations. Subsequently, the name of the association was changed to Rotating International. Rotary International's objective is worldwide peace building and positive goals.

World Thinking Day

World Thinking Day is observed on February 22 every year to celebrate friendship, sisterhood, and empowerment of women around the world. The day serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to create a better world, where every girl has equal opportunity to thrive. It is aimed at providing a platform for all women and girls to freely express their views and ideas, take part in discussions about priority issues as well as offer global solutions.
Its history dates back to 1926 when it was established to honour Lord Robert Baden-Powell's birthday. Powell was the founder of the scouting movement. Originally it was named 'Thinking Day' and urged scouts worldwide to pause and reflect on the meaning of their promise and the movement's global nature.
It was officially named the 'World Thinking Day' in 1932. Since then, it has been marked annually with a unique theme every year.
The theme for World Thinking Day 2024 is 'Our World, Our Thriving Future'.

International Mother Language Day

International Mother Language Day is observed on February 21, every year. It is a significant day to raise awareness about the importance of mother tongue and to promote multilingualism.
The day was first proposed in Bangladesh in 1952. Four students were killed while starting the movement to make Bengali the official language of the country.
In 1999, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) designated February 21 as International Mother Language Day. The General Assembly of the UN also welcomed the proposal.
The theme for International Mother Language Day 2024 is 'Multilingual education – a pillar of learning and intergenerational learning'.

Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh Foundation Day

The states of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh celebrate their Foundation Day on February 20, since 1987. This declaration was made by the Indian Government following the 53rd Amendment of the Indian Constitution in 1986. Arunachal Pradesh is also known as the 'Land Of The Rising Sun'. Proudly situated on the edge of the Himalayas, it is renowned for its dawn-lit mountains.
Arunachal Pradesh has a rich history that dates back centuries. The state was formerly known as the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) until it was granted statehood on 20 February 1987. Prior to that, it was a part of the larger state of Assam. The state was divided into 16 districts in 1975, and the first general election for the Assembly was held in February 1978.
The history of Mizoram dates back to 1961, when the Mizo National Front (MNF) was formed by local Mizo tribal leaders to demand political rights.
The insurgency, which lasted for two decades, eventually resulted in the peace accord between the government of India and the MNF in 1986. This historic agreement paved the way for the establishment of Mizoram as a state of India on February 20, 1987.

World Day of Social Justice

The World Day of Social Justice is observed annually on February 20. This day is dedicated to promoting social justice and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. The World Day of Social Justice is an opportunity to reflect on the progress made in the fight for social justice and to identify the challenges that remain.
The history of the World Day of Social Justice dates back to 1995, when the Copenhagen Summit for Social Development was held in Copenhagen, Denmark. The summit resulted in the Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action, which called for an end to poverty, unemployment, and discrimination. The World Day of Social Justice was first declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007.
The theme of World Day of Social Justice 2024 is 'Bridging Gaps, Building Alliances'. The United Nations chose this theme to emphasise the importance of collaboration and partnership in addressing the world's challenges.

This initiative aims to foster a tourism sector that can withstand both foreseen and unforeseen challenges, thereby ensuring its contribution to sustainable development and economic stability, especially in developing countries.
