Narendra Pays Homage to Pingali Venkayya on his Birth Anniversary
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the designer of the Indian National flag, Pingali Venkayya on his birth anniversary.
The Prime Minister said that the nation will forever be indebted to him for his efforts in giving citizens of the country 'the Tricolour'.
To mark the birth anniversary of Pingali Venkayya, the designer of India's national flag, the Central government released a special commemorative postage stamp.
Born near Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh) on August 2, 1876, Pingali had designed many models of the national flag. In 1921, Mahatma Gandhi approved a design during the Indian National Congress meeting in Vijayawada. The national flag that we see today was based upon his design.

Founder of Kannada Daily 'Udayavani' T. Mohandas Pai Passes Away
T. Mohandas Pai, founder of popular Kannada daily 'Udayavani', died following prolonged illness. He was 89.
He was the eldest son of Dr. T. M. A. Pai, the founder of the Manipal Group of Institutions. He was also the president of the Dr. T. M. A. Pai Foundation and Manipal Media Network, which runs 'Udayavani'.
Pai was a law graduate and is regarded as the architect of modern Manipal. He also headed ICDS Limited.
Indian Women Savitri Jindal Replaces China's Yang Huiyan as Asia's Richest Woman
Savitri Jindal, the Chairperson Emeritus of OP Jindal Group, surpassed China's Yang Huiyan and became Asia's richest woman, as per the real-time Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Savitri Jindal who also holds the position of the richest woman in India has a total fortune of $11.3 billion.
Jindal's net worth fluctuated wildly in recent years. It fell to $3.2 billion in April 2020 at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, then to $15.6 billion in April 2022 due to a rise in commodity prices following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The fortune of Yang Huiyan, owner of China's largest real estate developer 'Country Garden Holdings', dropped by more than half in 2022, from $ 24 billion to $11 billion. She had been Asia's richest woman for the past five years.

Fidel Valdez Ramos, ex-Philippine President Dies
Former Philippine President Fidel Valdez Ramos, a US-trained ex-general who saw action in the Korean and Vietnam wars and played a key role in a 1986 pro-democracy uprising that ousted a dictator, died. He was 94.
Ramos, known for his "we can do this" rallying call, thumbs-up sign, attention to detail and firm handshakes, served as president from 1992 to 1998, succeeding the democracy icon, Corazon Aquino.
In 1992, Ramos won the presidential elections and became the largely Roman Catholic nation's first Protestant president. His term was marked by major reforms and attempts to dismantle telecommunications and other business monopolies that triggered a rare economic boom, bolstered the image of the impoverished Southeast Asian country and drew praise from business leaders and the international community.
Veteran Assamese litterateur and winner of the Sahitya Akademi Award, Atulananda Goswami, passed away. He was 87. Goswami was known as a short story writer, a litterateur and a novelist par excellence. He was awarded the Sahitya Academy award in 2006, for his novel 'Seneh Jorir Ganthi' in 2006.
Some of his other notable works include 'Namgharia' 'Hamdoi Pulor Jon', 'Rajpaat', 'Polatok' and 'Ashray'. He had translated many English, Bengali and Odia works into Assamese, and also Assamese texts into English.

Punjabi Singer Balwinder Safri Passes Away at 63
Popular UK-based Punjabi singer Balwinder Safri died at the age of 63, weeks after recovering from coma.
Punjab-born Safri, who was based in Birmingham, was part of the UK bhangra scene since 1980 and formed the Safri Boyz Band in 1990.
Safri, known for hit Punjabi tracks such as "Rahaye Rahaye" and "Chan Mere Makhna", slipped into coma in April after suffering brain damage following a heart surgery.
