Pioneering Artist Vivan Sundaram Passes Away

  • Vivan Sundaram, one of India's pioneering multidisciplinary artists, passed away. He was 79.
  • Born in Shimla in 1943 to parents Kalyan Sundaram, former chairman of Law Commission of India, and Indira Sher-Gil, sister of noted Indian modern artist Amrita Sher-Gil, the Delhi-based artist studied painting at MS University, Baroda and The Slade School of Fine Art, London in the 1960s.
  • Sundaram's artistic practice, which moved from painting during his college years to engaging with everything from ready-mades, photographs, videos to sculptural installation, has been widely considered crucial in the definition and development of installation as a practice in the country.
  • Sundaram's works have been exhibited in the Biennials of Kochi (2012), Sydney (2008), Seville (2006), Taipei (2006), Sharjah (2005), Shanghai (2004), Havana (1997), Johannesburg (1997) and Kwangju (1997).

Krishna Prakash Becomes First Person to Swim from Gateway of India to Elephanta Caves

  • As part of the 'Drowning Prevention Awareness' campaign, Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Krishna Prakash swam from Gateway of India to Elephanta Caves, Mumbai. He completed the expedition of 16.20 km in just 5 hours 26 minutes and became the first person in history to do so. This is far from the first time the IPS officer broke records in sporting competitions.
  • Prakash had accomplished a remarkable achievement in sports in the past as well. In 2017, he was praised for finishing the Ironman Triathlon, a competition that demands participants to swim 3.8 kilometres, bike ride for 180.2 kilometres, and run for 42.2 kilometres within a span of 16-17 hours.

Co-founder of Intel, Gordon Moore Passes Away

  • Gordon Moore, the co-founder of Intel, died at the age of 94. He was a driving force behind the development of modern computing devices. Moore was regarded as an influential figure in the Silicon Valley.
  • In July 1968, Intel was founded by Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce, who had been long-time colleagues. Initially, Moore served as executive vice president, and then in 1975, he became president. In 1979, Moore was promoted to chairman of the board and chief executive officer, which he held until 1987, when he relinquished the CEO position but continued as chairman. Later in 1997, Moore was appointed chairman emeritus and eventually stepped down in 2006.

Indian Woman Hockey Player Salima Tete Appointed AHF Athletes Ambassador

  • National women's hockey team midfielder Salima Tete was appointed the AHF Athletes Ambassador from India for a term of two years. Tete accepted the certificate and the position during the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Congress in Mungyeong, Korea.
  • Tete, who led the Indian women's junior hockey team to a fourth-place finish at the 2021 FIH Women's Junior World Cup in Potchefstroom, South Africa, is among four players from Asia who were appointed for the position.
  • As the AHF Athletes Ambassador, Tete, along with the other selected athletes from Asia, will play a leadership role in international representation, development, and advocacy of athletes.

Veteran Journalist and Padma Shri Awardee Abhay Chhajlani Passes Away

  • Senior journalist and Padma Shri awardee Abhay Chhajlani passed away after a prolonged illness. He was 88.
  • Chhajlani, who was the chairman of the editorial board of Hindi daily Na iDuniya, was awarded the Padma Shri in 2009 for his outstanding contribution to journalism.
  • He had also served as the president of the Indian Language Newspaper Association (ILNA) and Indian Newspaper Society (INS).

Former Nagaland Minister Y. M. Yollow Passes Away

  • Former Nagaland minister Y. M. Yollow passed away in Delhi following a prolonged illness. He was 53.
  • CM Rio described Yollow as an energetic and promising leader with deep passion for politics.
  • The former NPF MLA from Wakching assembly constituency was given the portfolio of Forest, Environment and Climate Change in the previous government, after his party extended support to the ruling NDPP-BJP.
  • Due to his ill health, Yollow had not contested the state election in 2023.
