INS Vikramaditya Back in Action, Navy to Get 2 more Romeo Helicopters

The Indian Navy will later this month (June 2023) receive two MH-60 Romeo anti-submarine warfare helicopters, which will be deployed on board the INS Vikramaditya that has been operationalised after an exhaustive refit lasting nearly two and half years.
As per reports, the two helicopters will be delivered to India by the US government around the time (in June) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on an official visit to the country.
With the two, the Navy will have a total of five of these state-of-the-art helicopters, which will be deployed on the INS Vikramaditya, India's only operational aircraft carrier.
While the Navy commissioned indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in September last year, it is not yet operational and is set undergo four-five months of 'guarantee refit' later this month. Under this, the ship and its machinery will be examined like any new vessel under a guarantee period.
The Navy had announced the culmination of an exercise that showcased its capability and power to operate two aircraft carriers, with both INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant sailing together with their fleets. This involved the coordinated deployment of more than 35 aircraft in the Arabian Sea.

MEIL Group Company Bags Order from Defence Ministry

ICOMM, a group company of Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL), bagged a Rs. 500 crore order from the Ministry of Defence. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) inked a contract with ICOMM Tele Limited for the procurement of 1,035 of 5/7.5 ton radio relay communication equipment containers. The delivery of the containers is scheduled to commence from the current Financial Year 2023-24.
The radio relay containers will address a long overdue requirement of mobile communication detachments of the Indian Army. The containers will be utilised to provide a protected environment for communication equipment to function in a failsafe and reliable manner. The containers would be mounted on authorised specialist vehicles and moved as per operational requirements.
ICOMM would produce the containers with all equipment and sub-systems sourced from indigenous manufacturers.

'Sanshodhak' 4th Warship of Indian Navy Launched

'Sanshodhak', the fourth of four ships of Survey Vessels (Large) (SVL) Project, being built by L&T/ GRSE for Indian Navy was launched at Kattupalli, Chennai. The chief guest of the Launch Ceremony was VAdm Adhir Arora, Chief Hydrographer to Government of India. In keeping with the Naval maritime tradition, Tanvi Arora launched the ship. The ship named 'Sanshodhak', meaning 'Researcher', signifies the primary role of the ship as a Survey Vessel.
The contract for building four SVL ships was signed between MoD and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata on October 18, 2018.
SVL ships will replace the existing Sandhayak Class survey ships, with new generation hydrographic equipment, to collect oceanographic data. The Survey Vessel (Large) ships are 110 m long, 16 m wide with a displacement of 3,400 tons.

Maldives and Seychelles to Cooperate on Security Issues

Maldives and Seychelles decided to collaborate in addressing shared security concerns in the Indian Ocean Region, a development that would complement India's efforts to ensure peace and stability in the vast geographical area.
The decision was announced in a joint statement, as part of Seychelles' President Wavel Ramkalawan's official visit to the Maldives.
India shares close security partnership with both Maldives and Seychelles and the two countries, along with Mauritius and Sri Lanka, are key pillars of India's security architecture in the western and southern Indian Ocean Region.

Anti-submarine Warfare Ship 'Anjadip' Built for Navy Launched

An anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft vessel built by Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), for the Navy was launched at the Larsen and Toubro, Kattupalli Port. Anjadip, is the third of the eight ships of the contract that was signed between Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkata and Ministry of Defence in April 2019.
The vessel was named after the island of Anjadip located off Karwar Port, Karnataka signifying its strategic maritime importance.
The 'Arnala' class of ships built by GRSE would replace the current 'Abhay' class of anti-submarine warfare corvettes of the Navy and are designed to undertake anti-submarine operations in coastal waters, low intensity maritime operations, subsurface surveillance among others.
As per the contract, four ships are built by GRSE, Kolkata while the remaining four ships have been subcontracted to Larsen and Toubro, Shipbuilding, Kattupalli.

Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare Signs an MoU with Private Sector

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Directorate General Resettlement DGR under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare in the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and M/s Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company Limited in New Delhi. The MoU endeavours to bring the corporate companies and Ex-Servicemen on a common platform to generate employment opportunities for the esteemed ex-servicemen of the Defence Services.
Director General (Resettlement) Major General Sharad Kapur said that this partnership will bring in more visibility of the ex-servicemen to the industry and corporates and help in achieving the objectives of providing skilled manpower and giving a dignified second career to the ex-servicemen.

IPS Officer Nitin Agarwal New BSF Chief

Nitin Agarwal, a 1989-batch IPS officer of Kerala cadre, was appointed as the new Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF).
The post of BSF chief has been vacant for more than five months after Pankaj Kumar Singh retired on December 31, 2022.
CRPF DG Sujoy Lal Thaosen was handling the charge of BSF in an additional capacity since then.
Agarwal has served in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), another border guarding force under the command of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), apart from working in various capacities in his cadre state of Kerala.
