Food Security Museum Inaugurated at Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu

  • India's first Food Security Museum was inaugurated by Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal.
  • The Food Security Museum was established by the Food Corporation of India in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.
  • The museum was co-developed by Food Corporation of India (FCI) and Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museums, Bengaluru.
  • It was built at the cost of Rs 1.10 crore on an area of 1,860sqft.
  • Museum was established in Thanjavur, which is the birthplace of FCI. First office of FCI was inaugurated there on January 14, 1965.
  • Food Security Museum showcases the evolution of man from nomadic hunter groups into settled agriculture procedures, marking the beginning of civilisation.

India's First Rooftop Drive-in Theatre Launched in Mumbai

  • The first open-air rooftop drive-in movie theatre in India was inaugurated at Jio World Drive mall of Reliance Industries in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The drive-in theatre would be operated and managed by the multiplex chain PVR Ltd. The theatre was launched in partnership with the Reliance Retail and multiplex chain PVR. The facility can accommodate around 290 cars. The first movie screened at the theatre was Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi.

Art X Lagos Returns from Hiatus

  • West Africa's biggest annual art fair once again opened its doors to visitors, having made last year's event online-only to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
  • Highlights include textile pieces by Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien, portraiture from Nigeria's Juwon Aderemi and the photography of Moroccan-born Mous Lamrabat.
  • Art X Lagos is also showcasing digital works, known as Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs), by a number of African artists.

Saudi Arabia Excavates 'Forgotten Kingdoms'

  • Saudi Arabia is set to excavate 'five kingdoms' related to Dadanite and Lihyanite civilisations.
  • Excavation will be done by a team of French and Saudi Archaeologists.
  • They will excavate five nearby sites related to Dadanite and Lihyanite civilisations. Both of the civilisations were important regional powers, some 2000 years ago.
  • Kingdoms were spanning roughly 900 years until 100 CE. They controlled vital trade routes however, little is known about them.

Ancient Tomb of Pharaoh Ramesses II Official Discovered at Saqqara

  • A tomb dating back over 3,200 years that was built for a senior official of one of Egypt's most powerful pharaohs was discovered at Saqqara.
  • Inscriptions found in the tomb say that Ptah-M-Wia, the person buried there, held a number of positions including head of the treasury and chief supervisor of livestock during the reign of pharaoh Ramesses II (reign 1279–1213 B.C.), who expanded Egypt's empire as far as modern-day Syria. Ramesses II was also known for his building endeavors including the expansion of Karnak Temple. Ptah-M-Wia was head of the treasury centuries before the invention of minted coins; at that time people made payments with goods, rations or precious metals.
