Chhattisgarh becomes first state to restore old pension scheme

  • Chhattisgarh became the first state in the country to restore the old pension scheme in order to provide assured income to retired employees. The state government sent a proposal to the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) for the withdrawal of Rs 17,000 crore accrued under the National Pension Scheme since November 2004. 
    • The government issued a notification saying that the old pension scheme will be effective from April 1, 2022. Also, the 10 per cent deduction for monthly contribution from the salary of government employees as a contribution to the new pension scheme will be abolished from April 1, 2022. However, a minimum of 12 per cent of basic salary will be deducted as per the General Provident Fund rule.
    • The old pension scheme gives 50 per cent of the employee's salary as pension.

Madhya Pradesh Govt. Launches Second Phase of Ladli Laxmi Scheme to Make Girls Self-reliant

  • Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched Ladli Laxmi schme-2.0 during a state-level function at Lal Parade Ground in Bhopal. More than seven thousand girls were present in the programme. Chief Minister also dedicated the Ladli e-Samvad app to establish a continuous dialogue with Ladlis.
  • Ladli Laxmi schme - 2.0 is an innovative initiative to encourage daughters to pursue higher education and make them self-dependent. Decision was also taken to honour gram panchayats as Ladli Friendly panchayat who have done remarkable work for the economic empowerment, skill enhancement and protection of rights along with nutrition, health and education of the daughters and to boost their self-confidence.

Subsidised Meals Scheme for Attendants of Patients in Government Hospitals in Telangana

  • The Telangana government launched the subsidised meal programme of 'Rs. 5 per meal' to attendants of patients at state-run hospitals. After launching the scheme at Osmania General Hospital, state Health Minister T. Harish Rao and Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali served the attendants. As part of the programme, three meals a day would be provided to attendants of patients in 18 major government hospitals at Rs. 5 per meal.
  • The Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC) will act as the nodal department in implementing the scheme and will arrange for provision of three meals a day to attendants through the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation.

Tamil Nadu govt announced breakfast scheme for primary school students

    • Tamil Nadu chief minister, MK Stalin announced that all government primary school students from 1st to 5th standards will be provided nutritious breakfast on all working days. Tamil Nadu became the first state to offer breakfast along with midday meals.
    • The free breakfast scheme was launched based on the available information that the government school children skip breakfast while going to school because of the distance and family situations.

Haryana Govt. Launches 'e-Adhigam' Scheme to Distribute Tablets to Students

  • The Haryana State Government launched the 'e-Adhigam' scheme under which nearly 3 lakh students will be receiving tablet computers to aid their online education. The state government has planned to provide the gadget to five lakh students. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched the Advance Digital Haryana Initiative of Government with Adaptive Modules (Adigham) scheme at Maharishi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Haryana.
  • As per reports, the Class 11 students of Haryana government schools will get the tablets after they clear the Class 10 board exams and qualify for the succeeding year. These devices come with pre-loaded content along with personalised and adaptive learning software, and 2GB of free data. The tablet is the new classroom and "through e-books, it has become a full-fledged classroom.
