Mother's Day

Anna Jarvis of West Virginia is credited with starting Mother's Day in the US. After her mother's death in 1905, Jarvis campaigned to create a day to honour mothers and their sacrifices. Her efforts gained momentum, and in 1914, Mother's Day became a national holiday in the United States.

International Nurses Day

WMBD is an annual awareness-raising campaign to highlight the necessity of conserving migratory birds and their habitats.

The idea for World Migratory Bird Day was first thought up by visionaries from the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Centre. In 2007, the responsibility for the day was transferred to the not-for-profit organization 'Environment for the Americas'.
