Sachin Bansal-backed Navi Technologies Ltd which sells financial products like personal loans, home loans, and general insurance etc., appointed M.S. Dhoni as its brand ambassador. Dhoni will be the face of the company's branding initiatives.
The association with the former team India captain strengthens the brand's trustworthiness as it works to fulfill customer goals by providing simple, affordable, and easily accessible financial services across India.

Switzerland Tourism appointed Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra as its 'Friendship Ambassador' to showcase and promote locations in the country to Indian travellers. Chopra will share his experiences in the country to showcase it as the ideal destination for outdoors and the best destination for hiking, biking, soft and extreme adventure and of course snow sports.

Independent India's First Voter Shyam Saran Negi Dies

The first citizen of independent India to ever cast a vote, Shyam Saran Negi, died at the age of 106 at his residence in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur.
He cast his postal vote for the assembly elections on November 2, 2022 for the 34th time.
Born on July 1, 1917, Negi worked as a schoolteacher in Kalpa. When India held its first general elections in 1951 after the end of British rule in 1947, Negi was the first one to cast his vote on October 25.

Byju's Ropes in Messi as Global Brand Ambassador for Social Initiative EFA

Edtech major BYJU's has roped in football star Lionel "Leo" Messi as the first global brand ambassador of its social impact arm Education For All.
Messi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain and captains the Argentinian football team, signed an agreement with BYJU'S to promote the cause of equitable education.
The engagement of BYJU's with Messi will enhance visibility of the edtech firm overseas as football has roughly 3.5 billion fans worldwide, and Lionel Messi has a social media following of nearly 450 million.

Elaben Bhatt: Prominent Gandhian, Founder of SEWA Passes Away

Elaben Bhatt, founder of Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA) and renowned Gandhian, passed away in Ahmedabad. She was 89 years old.
Bhatt was a qualified lawyer and had served as the chairperson of the Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust (SAPMT) in the past.
She was among the foremost Gandhians of India. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, Ela founded SEWA in 1972 which today has a membership of over 2 million self-employed women across 18 states in India.
She later founded the Women's World Banking (WWB), a network of microfinance institutions. Between 1984 and 1988, she was the chairperson of WWB. At one time, she also served as the advisor to the World Bank.
Bhatt was appointed as the chancellor of the Gujarat Vidyapith, which was also founded by Gandhi. But in 2022, she resigned from the post.
In 1985, she received India's fourth-highest civilian honour, Padma Shri. Subsequently, in 1986 she won the third-highest civilian honour, Padma Bhushan. In 2011, for her efforts in empowering women through entrepreneurship, Bhatt received the Gandhi Peace Prize.

Steel Man of India Jamshed J Irani Passes Away

Jamshed J. Irani, known as the steel man of India, died in Jamshedpur. He was 86.
Irani retired from the board of Tata Steel in June 2011, leaving behind a legacy of 43 years, which won him and the company international acclaim in various fields.
Born on June 2, 1936 in Nagpur to Jiji Irani and Khorshed Irani, Irani completed his BSc from Science College, Nagpur in 1956 and MSc in Geology from the Nagpur University in 1958.
He then went to the University of Sheffield in UK as a J N Tata scholar, where he secured a Masters in Metallurgy in 1960, and a PhD in Metallurgy in 1963.
He started his professional career with the British Iron and Steel Research Association in Sheffield in 1963, but always yearned to contribute to the Nation's progress. He returned to India to join The Tata Iron and Steel Company (now Tata Steel), as it was then known, in 1968, and joined the firm as Assistant to the Director in-charge of Research and Development.
He went on to become General Superintendent in 1978, General Manager in 1979, and President of Tata Steel in 1985. He became Joint Managing Director of Tata Steel in 1988, and Managing Director in 1992.

Singapore's First Defence Chief Vij Dies

Singapore's first Defence Chief and Ambassador Brigadier-General (BG) Kirpa Ram Vij died. He was 87. Vij served as Singapore's Ambassador to Egypt from 1974 to 1979, with concurrent non-residential accreditation to Pakistan, Yugoslavia, Lebanon, and Ethiopia. He joined the Defence Ministry in 1966 and was instrumental in setting up the Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute (SAFTI).
He retired from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in 1974.
