GRSE's Seventh ASW Ship, 'Abhay', Joins Indian Navy Fleet

The Indian Navy's seventh Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), named 'Abhay', was launched at M/s L&T's Kattupalli facility. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), this vessel marks a significant addition to India's maritime defense capabilities.
The launch ceremony was overseen by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of the Eastern Naval Command, with Mrs. Sandhya Pendharkar, President of the Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) Eastern Region, performing the ceremonial launch.
The contract for building eight ASW SWC ships was signed between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and GRSE, Kolkata, in April 2019.

India-Germany Maritime Partnership Exercise

The Indian Navy and German Navy completed their inaugural Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) in the Indian Ocean, marking a key milestone in naval collaboration. The exercise, held in the Bay of Bengal, included joint operations involving INS Delhi, a guided-missile destroyer from India, and Baden-Württemberg and Frankfurt Am Main, a frigate and replenishment tanker from Germany. This event highlighted both nations' commitment to enhancing maritime interoperability and regional stability.

Indian Army's International Seminar 'Chanakya Defence Dialogue'

The second edition of the flagship international seminar of the Indian Army, 'Chanakya Defence Dialogue', was held at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi.
The two-day seminar, with the theme 'Drivers in Nation Building: Fuelling Growth Through Comprehensive Security' saw discussions on integrating security dynamics within national and international policymaking. The event aimed to craft visionary strategies for sustainable and inclusive growth.
Policymakers, strategic thinkers, academics, defence personnel, veterans, and scientists from India and abroad are attended the event.
The dialogue explored India's strategic pathways towards 'Viksit Bharat @2047', focusing on the role of comprehensive security in national development.

Defence Ministry Signs Contract with Firm to Procure 6 Air Cushion Vehicles

The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Chowgule & Company Pvt. Ltd., Goa for procurement of six Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs) for the Indian Coast Guard at a total cost of Rs. 387.44 crore. These amphibious vessels, also called 'Hovercrafts', will be procured under the Buy (Indian) category.
These ACVs will be manufactured in India for the "first time in line with the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision of the government, representing a pivotal step in the nation's shipping landscape.

Swavlamban 2024: Advancing Naval Innovation and Indigenisation

The Curtain Raiser Press Conference for Swavlamban 2024, the third edition of the Indian Navy's Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO) Seminar, took place in New Delhi on October 22, 2024. Chaired by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Vice Chief of Naval Staff (VCNS), the event highlighted the Navy's commitment to showcasing significant advancements in innovation and indigenisation aimed at bolstering India's defense capabilities. Scheduled for October 28-29, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam, Swavlamban 2024 promises to be a larger and more impactful gathering.
The VCNS elaborated on the Navy's ongoing efforts toward achieving Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defense technologies, marking a significant evolution from previous initiatives. This year's seminar will include a range of activities such as the unveiling of challenges, discussions on niche technologies, and the release of the Swavlamban 3.0 Document.
Theme: The event revolves around the theme "Strength and Power through Innovation and Indigenisation," reflecting the Navy's dedication to fostering innovation to tackle modern warfare challenges.
Activities Planned: Swavlamban 2024 will feature a variety of activities, including the unveiling of challenges, the release of the Swavlamban 3.0 Document, domain-specific discussions on niche technologies, funding for the innovation ecosystem, and recognition of innovators.
