IIT Guwahati Hosts Semiconductor Horizons Workshop to Foster Semiconductor Synergy

  • Aiming to foster innovation and translational research collaboration in Semiconductor Technology in the State of Assam and beyond, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati successfully conducted the Semiconductor Horizons Workshop at the Institute campus.
  • Organised in collaboration with Ministry of Education, Government of India; Government of Assam; Viksit Bharat Abhiyan; and Tata Electronics, the workshop aimed to foster education, skill development, Innovation, capacity building in the semiconductor domain, and technology transfer to strengthen semiconductor eco-system.
  • The workshop featured various sessions covering topics such as recent advancements in heterogenous integration in semiconductor packaging, test and assemble, Complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology, Very-large-scale integration (VLSI), compound semiconductors, and optoelectronic devices, with expert speakers from industries, academicians and policy makers sharing insights on the latest trends and advancements in the field of semiconductor science and technology.

China to Launch Chang'e-6 Lunar Probe Carrying Pakistan's ICUBE-Q Mission

  • China is set to launch the Chang'e-6 lunar probe on a round trip to the Moon, marking a significant advancement in their space exploration. The mission aims to gather soil and rock samples from the far side of the Moon, providing crucial insights into its early evolution and the inner solar system.
  • This will be the first-ever attempt to retrieve lunar samples from the far side of the Moon, a region hidden from Earth's view.
  • Pakistan is set to launch its maiden lunar mission, ICUBE-Q, aboard China's Chang'e-6 probe. Developed in collaboration with China's Shanghai University and Pakistan's Institute of Space Technology (IST), ICUBE-Q carries optical cameras to capture images of the lunar surface.
  • This historic collaboration between Pakistan and China not only marks a milestone for Pakistan's space program but also enhances international cooperation in lunar exploration.

  • Google introduced 'Speaking Practice,' an AI-driven feature embedded within its search platform, aiming to enhance users' English speaking abilities through interactive exercises.
  • Google's Speaking Practice harnesses AI technology to assist English learners in Argentina, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Venezuela. This feature, part of Google's Search Labs program, offers AI-driven interactive language exercises for users to practice conversational English.
  • To access Speaking Practice, users must join Google's Search Labs programme. Once enrolled, users can activate the feature to make it accessible within Google Search.

  • The Indian Space Situational Assessment Report (ISSAR) for 2023, compiled by ISRO System for Safe and Sustainable Space Operations Management (IS4OM) and released by ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, has revealed that more space objects were placed in orbit in 2023 compared to the previous year, indicating a growing trend in space object population.

China Launches 3-member Crew to its Space Station

  • China launched a three-member crew to its orbiting space station as part of its ambitious program that aims to put astronauts on the moon by 2030.
  • The Shenzhou-18 spacecraft lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre on the edge of the Gobi Desert in north-western China atop a Long March 2-F rocket.
  • The spacecraft's three-member crew will relieved the Shenzhou-17 team, which has been staffing China's Tiangong space station since last October (2023).
  • The trio is made of Commander Ye Guangfu, a veteran astronaut who took part in the Shenzhou-13 mission in 2021, and fighter pilots Li Cong and Li Guangsu who are spaceflight rookies.

C-DOT and IIT, Jodhpur Sign Agreement for Automated Service Management in Network of 5G and beyon...

  • C-DOT, the premier Telecom R&D Centre of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India and Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur (IIT-J) signed an agreement for 'Automated Service Management in 5G and Beyond Networks Using AI'.
  • The agreement is signed under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) of the DoT, which is designed for providing funding support to domestic companies and institutions involved in technology design, development, commercialisation of telecommunication products and solutions to enable affordable broadband and mobile services in rural and remote areas.
  • The primary objective is to develop AI frameworks for automated network management, fault detection, and diagnostic techniques by utilising continuous information generated within the network like 5G. The service will establish a real time 5G and Beyond test bed (in compliance with O-RAN) for the demonstration of the developed automated network management and slicing techniques in conjunction with specific application use-cases such as smart metering, remotely operated vehicles, etc.
