Ritesh Chauhan Named as CEO of PM Fasal Bima Yojana

  • Senior bureaucrat Ritesh Chauhan was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Joint Secretary, Agriculture under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare. Chauhan will have a combined tenure of seven years up to September 22, 2023. He is a 2005-batch IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre. He will succeed Ashish Kumar Bhutani, who was appointed in 2018.

Tamil Nadu CM Stalin Launches Scheme to Melt Temple Jewellery

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin launched temple gold monetisation scheme to melt into 24 carat gold bars, the unutilised jewellery in the possession of the temples in the State.
  • Initially, the gold ornaments lying unutilised at the three renowned temples of Sri Karumariamman temple in Tiruverkadu, Sri Mariamman temple in Samayapuram and Sri Mariamman temple at Irukkankudi, will be melted and converted into gold bars for monetisation.

Union Cabinet Approves Phase-2 of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban, AMRUT

  • The Union Cabinet approved the second phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation till 2025-26.
  • A financial outlay of Rs. 1,41,600 crore was finalised for SBM-U 2.0, including a central share of Rs. 36,465 crore, which is over 2.5 times the financial outlay of Rs. 62,009 crores in the last phase of the mission.
  • The second phase of SBM focuses on sustainability of Open Defecation Free (ODF) outcomes, achieving scientific processing of solid waste in all cities, and managing waste water in cities with less than one lakh population as per Census 2011.

Andhra Government Launches 'Swechha' Programme

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the 'Swechha' programme to tackle the stigma attached to menstruation, prioritize female personal hygiene, and encourage a healthy dialogue of information. 'Swechha' (meaning freedom) is intended to ensure affordable access to health and menstrual hygiene in adolescent girls and women.
  • Under the initiative:
  • The state government will provide good quality branded sanitary napkins to female students at government educational institutions free of cost.
  • Ten sanitary napkins will be given every month to about 10 lakh adolescent girls studying from 7th-12th grades in all government schools and intermediate colleges across the state at a financial outlay of INR 32 crores.

Comprehensive Handicrafts Cluster Development Scheme

  • Ministry of Textiles approved the continuation of Comprehensive Handicrafts Cluster Development Scheme (CHCDS).
  • CHCDS scheme was approved with a total outlay of Rs. 160 crore.
  • Scheme would continue up to March 2026 now.
  • Under the scheme, infrastructural support, design and technology upgradation, market access etc will be provided to handicrafts artisans.
  • CHCDS scheme was launched to create world-class infrastructure which will caters to the business needs of local artisans & SMEs in order to boost production and export. These clusters have been set with the objective of assisting the artisans & entrepreneurs in setting up world-class units with modern infrastructure, adequate training, latest technology, and human resource development inputs. It is also coupled with market linkages and production diversification.
