Punjab CM Channi Launches Employment Guarantee Scheme
Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi launched the Punjab Government Rozgar Guarantee for Youth (PRAGTY) scheme that promises to generate 1 lakh government jobs each year for youngsters, a development that comes as his government pushes for re-election this year. The scheme was later approved by the Cabinet.

Goa Govt. Approves Policy to Export Rejected Iron Ore
The Goa cabinet approved a policy to permit the export of iron ore dumps, which will allow the resumption of mining activity in the coastal state for the next four to five years.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that 10 to 20 million metric tonnes of the low-grade iron ore was lying at different locations outside the mining leases, which can be exported as a part of the policy.
The state government's policy will regularise mining dumps on government and private lands.

Tamil Nadu CM Launches 'Meendum Manjappai' Scheme
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the 'Meendum Manjappai' scheme to promote the use of cloth bags by the public and discourage the use of plastic bags. This awareness campaign on using 'yellow' cloth bag or 'manjappai' as it is called in Tamil, is aimed at encouraging the people to return to the use of this eco-friendly bag and discard the plastic bags. The state government had enforced a ban on the production, use, storage, distribution, transportation or sale of 14 types of plastics with effect from January 1, 2019.

Maharashtra Launches Chalo Mobile App & Smart Card for Bus Travel
Maharashtra Tourism and Environment Minister, Aaditya Thackeray launched the Chalo mobile application (app) and Chalo smart cards to facilitate digital and advance purchase of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus tickets. He also launched the NCMC compliant smart card of BEST as well as new fare schemes for the passengers, one that provided 10 trips at Rs. 70 and another called 'Flexifare'.
Chalo mobile app would allow passengers to buy online bus tickets and have access to bus passes through an e-wallet. A contract worth Rs. 85 crore has been given for the maintenance of the Chalo mobile application for six years.

Punjab Govt. to Release Rs. 1,200 crore under Debt Waiver Scheme for Farmers
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi announced release of funds worth Rs. 1,200 crore to clear loans up to Rs. 2 lakh under the existing debt waiver scheme along with cancellation of all FIRs against farmers in the state who protested against the farm laws.
The latest tranche of funds is expected to benefit about 1.09 lakh small and marginal farmers having land up to five acres. The state government has already waived loans of 5.63 lakh farmers to the tune of Rs. 4,610 crore.
Maharashtra Passes Bill Approving Death Penalty for Rape
Maharashtra became the second state in India after Andhra Pradesh to approve death penalty for heinous offences of rapes and gang-rapes, with the Maharashtra Assembly unanimously passing the Shakti Criminal Laws (Maharashtra Amendment) Bill.
The Bill, which aims to curb crime against women and children, provides stricter punishment including death penalty in rape cases.
The Bill provides for death penalty or life imprisonment for cases of heinous offences of rape, gang-rape and rape and gang-rape on women under 16 years of age, punishment to men, women and transgenders in cases of insulting the modesty of a woman and intimidating a woman by any mode of communication, and completing the investigation in 30 days.
