Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana Covers over 16,554 Tribal Villages for Integrated Developme...

Over 16,554 tribal villages were covered so far (till December 31, 2022) under the Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana for the integrated development of tribal dominated villages.
As per Tribal Affairs Ministry, an amount of over 1,900 crore rupees was already released to the states. The main objective of this scheme is to achieve socio-economic development of selected villages through convergence approach.
The Ministry revamped the existing Scheme of Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub-Scheme with Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojna, for implementation during 2021-22 to 2025-26. Central government is now working to develop 36,428 villages with at least 50 percent tribal population and 500 Scheduled Tribes across the country into model tribal villages.

Centre Roll out New Integrated Food Security Scheme

The government rolled out of centre's new integrated food security Scheme from January 1, 2023.
As per the decision made by cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the new Scheme would provide free food grains to 81.35 crore beneficiaries under NFSA, for the year 2023.
The scheme would also ensure effective and uniform implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA).
Under the scheme, the government will provide free food grains to all NFSA beneficiaries, i.e. Antyodaya Ann Yojana (AAY) households & Priority Household (PHH) persons for the year 2023 through the wide spread network of 5.33 lakh Fair Price Shops across the country.
The new integrated scheme subsumed two current food subsidy schemes of the Department of Food and Public Distribution- a) Food Subsidy to FCI for NFSA, and b) Food Subsidy for decentralized procurement states, dealing with procurement, allocation and delivery of free food grains to the states under NFSA.

Indian Railways Launches 'Amrit Bharat' Scheme for Development of Stations

The Ministry of Railways launched a new scheme 'Amrit Bharat Station scheme' for the modernisation of the railway stations across the country. The scheme envisages infrastructural development of more than 1,000 stations on a continuous basis with a long-term vision.
The new scheme will be implemented as per needs and patronage of the railway stations. The scheme is based on the preparation of Master Plans and its implementation in phases to create Roof Plazas and city centres at the station in the long term.

Maharashtra Assembly Passes Lokayukta Bill, Brings CM under Anti-corruption Lens

Maharashtra assembly passed the Lokayukta Bill 2022, which brings the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers under the ambit of the anti-corruption ombudsman.
The bill was passed without discussion as the opposition had staged a walkout over the alleged scam in the Teachers Entrance Test.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis termed the bill a historic legislation, adding Maharashtra is the first state to have such a law.
As per the bill, prior approval of the Assembly has to be obtained and the motion has to be placed before the immediate session of the House before initiating any inquiry against the Chief Minister.

Telangana Govt. Launches 10th Phase of Rythu Bandhu

Telangana government launched the 10th phase of Rythu Bandhu, the investment support scheme for farmers. Under this phase, 7,676 crore will be deposited in the bank accounts of over 70 lakh 54 thousand farmers towards investment support for the Rabi crop season.
Rythu Bandhu scheme is a farmer support scheme that provides a grant of Rs. 5000 per acre to farmers as an investment support for agriculture and horticulture each season. Farmers can use the grant to purchase seeds, fertilizers and pesticides.
The scheme was implemented from 2018-19 Kharif season. It helps to support farmers to not fall into the dept trap.

Odisha Govt. Health Scheme Helps over 600,000 poor People Get Free Treatment

Over 6 lakh people belonging to poor families in Odisha availed of cashless and free treatment in several private hospitals under the state government's health scheme, Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), in 2022.
As many as 6.31 lakh poor people, having either the BSKY smart card or the PDS card, were provided high-quality and free treatment in different speciality hospitals in the private sector from January 1 to December 25, 2022.
The information was revealed at a performance review meeting chaired by Health and Family Welfare secretary Shalini Pandit.
The state government has paid around Rs. 1,389 crore to the empanelled private sector hospitals towards free treatment of the poor patients.

Karnataka Passes Bill on Hiked Quota for SC/ST in Educational Institutes

The Karnataka Assembly unanimously passed a Bill enhancing reservation for SC/STs in government educational institutions and State government services.
The Bill proposes to increase the quota for the Scheduled Castes from 15 per cent to 17 per cent and for Scheduled Tribes from 3 per cent to 7 per cent.
The Bill aims to replace the ordinance passed by the government in October 2022.
Welcoming the Bill, the Opposition said that the new reservation policy would not benefit the targeted people as government jobs were curtailed due to privatisation.
The Opposition said the government should make provision for reservation in the private sector too.

Governor Gives Assent to Stricter Anti-conversion Law in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh gave his assent to the Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill, 2022, making unlawful conversions a cognizable and non-bailable offence punishable with a prison term of up to 10 years.
The bill was passed by the state assembly in November 2022 and the governor gave his assent to the legislation.
With the governor's sanction to the bill it became an act paving the way for stricter punishment to offenders in such cases, they said.
Apart from a maximum imprisonment of up to ten years, persons indulging in forceful and unlawful conversion in Uttarakhand will now be slapped with a fine of at least Rs. 50,000.
"No person shall convert, either directly or otherwise, any other person from one religion to another by use or practice of misrepresentation, force, undue influence, coercion, allurement or by any fraudulent means. No person shall abet, convince or conspire such conversion," the Act said.
