Rajasthan Increases Workdays to 125 under its Job Guarantee Scheme

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot approved a proposal to increase the number of workdays from 100 to 125 under the Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme.
The scheme, started on the lines of central government's Mahatma Gandhi NREGA, is proving helpful for the jobless in the cities.
This amendment will be effective from April 1, 2023. An expenditure of about Rs 1,100 crore is likely to be incurred for providing additional 25 days' work to the urban unemployed.
Under the scheme, people can get work through a job card, which they can be issued by producing Jan Aadhaar card and fulfilling other formalities.
The scheme provides work in several fields such as environment protection, water conservation, heritage protection, cleanliness, public service, convergence, and prevention of property distortion.

Madhya Pradesh Approves New Excise Policy

The Madhya Pradesh cabinet approved the new excise policy under which 'ahatas', or areas for drinking attached to liquor outlets, and shop bars will be closed.
As per State Home Minister Narottam Mishra, the new excise policy is designed to discourage liquor consumption.
This came amid senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti's demand for a controlled liquor policy in MP.
Bharti, who started her campaign with the demand for total prohibition, has now been asking for regularisation of liquor sale in the state, where the Assembly polls are due this year-end.
The distance of liquor shops from educational institutions, girls' hostels and religious places is being increased from 50 metres to 100 metres.

Himachal Pradesh Cabinet Approves Scheme for Orphans, Destitute Women

The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet approved guidelines for the Rs. 101 crore Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Ashray Yojana.
Orphans and those staying with their relatives, especially disabled children, destitute women and senior citizens were brought under the ambit of the scheme.
The orphan children, referred to as 'Children of the State', will be adopted by the government.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who chaired the meeting, decided to refurbish the existing shelter homes, orphanages, old-age homes, etc., under the Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Ashray Yojana to provide better facilities to the inmates.

Kerala Launches Monthly Stipend Scheme for Junior Lawyers

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated a monthly stipend scheme for junior lawyers in the state. Under the scheme, launched at an event hosted by the Bar Council of Kerala and the Advocates Welfare Trust, junior lawyers will be paid Rs. 3,000 every month.
According to the Kerala government's new scheme, only junior lawyers below 30 years of age are entitled to the monthly stipend. These lawyers must have less than three years of practice and an annual income under Rs. 1 lakh.
The present scheme is based on a state government order dated June 24, 2022, passed in light of the Kerala Advocate Stipend Rules, 2021.

Telangana Govt. to Enact Clinical Establishment Act

The Telangana government is planning to enact the Clinical Establishment Act for regulating private hospitals in the state. State Finance Minister Harish Rao made the announcement in the Assembly during his reply to a discussion on the health department.
The members raised concerns relating to private hospitals over irregularities and imposing hefty charges for treatment. Stating that there is no law to regulate private hospitals in the State, he said the government is planning to enact a new Act to regulate them.
He said that the aim is to improve facilities and provide corporate healthcare for the poor through the government hospitals.
