National award-winning singer Shivamogga Subbanna passed away at the age of 83.
Subbanna was the first Kannadiga to win a National Award for playback singing the song 'Kaadu Kudure Odi Banditta' in the film Kaadu Kudure. He became a household name in Karnataka after he sang 'Baarisu Kannada Dindimava', written by Rashtrakavi Kuvempu.
Known for his work in the field of 'Sugama Sangeetha', a genre in which poetry in Kannada is set to music, Subbanna has worked on and sung poetries of famous poets such as Kuvempu and Da Ra Bendre, and got several awards and honours. He was also a singer with Akashvani and Doordarshan and had worked as an advocate.

Pulitzer Prize-winning Author David McCullough Passes Away
David McCullough, best-selling author and renowned historian who won Pulitzer Prizes for his biographies of presidents John Adams and Harry Truman, died at the age of 89.
McCullough was known for writing several deeply researched and popular works about important American figures and points in history such as the building of the Brooklyn Bridge and the first flight by the Wright Brothers.
McCullough won a Pulitzer Prize in 1993 for "Truman," a biography about the 33rd President of the United States and another Prize in 2002 for "John Adams," a biography about the 2nd U.S. President.

Former Boxing World Champion Johnny Famechon Dies
Former boxing world champion Johnny Famechon died in Melbourne after a lengthy illness. He was 77.
The Sport Australia Hall of Fame announced Famechon's death.
The Australian boxer's most memorable world title victory was his WBC points decision win against Cuban Jose Legra at London's Albert Hall in 1969. Famechon boxed professionally for more than 20 years and had a record of 56 wins — 20 by knockout — six draws and five losses.
Famechon defended his featherweight world title against Japan's Masahiko Harada, better known as Fighting Harada, six months after beating Legra.
Famechon attempted to defend his WBC title in May 1970 in Rome against Mexican Vicente Saldivar but lost the fight. He retired from boxing soon after at the age of 24.

Narendra Pays Homage to Pingali Venkayya on his Birth Anniversary
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the designer of the Indian National flag, Pingali Venkayya on his birth anniversary.
The Prime Minister said that the nation will forever be indebted to him for his efforts in giving citizens of the country 'the Tricolour'.
To mark the birth anniversary of Pingali Venkayya, the designer of India's national flag, the Central government released a special commemorative postage stamp.
Born near Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh) on August 2, 1876, Pingali had designed many models of the national flag. In 1921, Mahatma Gandhi approved a design during the Indian National Congress meeting in Vijayawada. The national flag that we see today was based upon his design.

Founder of Kannada Daily 'Udayavani' T. Mohandas Pai Passes Away
T. Mohandas Pai, founder of popular Kannada daily 'Udayavani', died following prolonged illness. He was 89.
He was the eldest son of Dr. T. M. A. Pai, the founder of the Manipal Group of Institutions. He was also the president of the Dr. T. M. A. Pai Foundation and Manipal Media Network, which runs 'Udayavani'.
Pai was a law graduate and is regarded as the architect of modern Manipal. He also headed ICDS Limited.
Indian Women Savitri Jindal Replaces China's Yang Huiyan as Asia's Richest Woman
Savitri Jindal, the Chairperson Emeritus of OP Jindal Group, surpassed China's Yang Huiyan and became Asia's richest woman, as per the real-time Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Savitri Jindal who also holds the position of the richest woman in India has a total fortune of $11.3 billion.
Jindal's net worth fluctuated wildly in recent years. It fell to $3.2 billion in April 2020 at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, then to $15.6 billion in April 2022 due to a rise in commodity prices following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The fortune of Yang Huiyan, owner of China's largest real estate developer 'Country Garden Holdings', dropped by more than half in 2022, from $ 24 billion to $11 billion. She had been Asia's richest woman for the past five years.
