Samsung with MeitY & IIT Delhi Launches Season 2 of 'Solve for Tomorrow' Competition

Samsung launched the second season of National Innovation Competition 'Solve for Tomorrow' in association with MeitY and IIT Delhi. The application process ends on May 31, 2023. Candidates can apply for the competition online through the official site of Samsung at samsung.com/in/solvefortomorrow.
The organisation partnered with Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology's (MeitY's) Star-tup Hub and Foundation for Innovation & Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi for the second season of its national education and innovation competition to develop innovative thinking mindset among the youth.
With Solve for Tomorrow, Samsung aims to usher in a culture of innovative thinking and problem-solving amongst the country's youth.

First in India: Jaipur School Becomes Fully Digitised by Going Bagless

Adarsh Vidya Mandir School in Rajasthan's Jaipur district became India's first digitised school where students will not need to carry textbooks and heavy bags when they go to study.
It is the first school to offer a STEM Robotics & AI Programme with the US curriculum and certifications which is the first of its kind in India.
Teaching and learning will now happen using Tablets that are provided to students and teachers. Under the digitisation of classrooms, Tablets have been provided to students and teachers under our One Tablet Per Child (OTPC) and Digital Learning Ecosystem programmes.

University of Sheffield Introduces International Postgraduate Scholarship 2023

The University of Sheffield, UK announced a postgraduate scholarship for international students, who are joining the varsity from a few selected regions to study a masters programme in September 2023.
This scholarship is worth £2,000 for courses in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Faculty of Social Sciences and £2,500 for courses in the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health, and Faculty of Science.
Candidates would not need to fill out any additional scholarship application if they meet the eligibility and award criteria. The scholarship is for full-time and part-time students only. Students studying online or via distance learning are not eligible for the scholarship.

IIM Shillong Celebrates its 14th Convocation Ceremony

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong, hosted its 14th annual convocation. In the event, 236 students from the PGP-2021-23 batch (2-year full-time residential programme), 43 students from the PGPEX batch of 2022-23 (1-year full-time residential programme), 16 students from the PGPWE2020-22 and 47 students from the PGPWE2021-23 batch were conferred with MBA degrees. Further, 5 Doctoral Scholars were conferred with their PhD degrees.
The convocation ceremony was attended by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State (MoS) for Electronics and Information Technology & Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, as the Chief Guest (through virtual mode), and Gaurav Swarup, Co-Chairman & Managing Director of Paharpur Cooling Towers Ltd, as the Guest of Honour.

UP Schools Adopt NCERT's Revised Textbooks

Uttar Pradesh government schools will adopt from this academic session the NCERT's new class 12 history textbooks in which portions about Mughal courts have been removed.
As part of its "syllabus rationalisation" exercise last year (2022), the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), citing "overlapping" and "irrelevant" as reasons, dropped certain portions from the syllabus including lessons on Mughal courts from its class 12 textbooks.
Many of these changes were announced in early 2022 when the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) rationalised its syllabi in April. Besides schools under CBSE, some state boards also use NCERT textbooks.

Ambedkar University to Launch 5 New Schools for Science, Social Science from 2023-24

Ambedkar University, Delhi will launch five new schools for science and social science from the 2023-24 academic session.
The new schools will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in public policy, mathematics and data science, indigenous knowledge and tribal studies, media studies, and philosophy and religion studies.
The new schools will incorporate 21st-century skills into their curriculum, including critical thinking, problem-solving, digital literacy, collaboration, entrepreneurship and global awareness.
The addition of the five schools is part of the university's expansion project that aims to enhance student strength to about 26,000 in the future.

India Post Showcases Special Postal Cover on IIM-Bangalore

India Post released a commemorative special postal cover to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B).
The cover has been designed by the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) along with India Post.
The special postal cover was released by Ms. Kaiya Arora, IPoS, Director of Postal Services (HQ), Karnataka Circle, and handed over to Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, and Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM Bangalore.

Students from Classes 1 to 8 to be Promoted Without Exams in UP

The Uttar Pradesh government directed that all students from Classes 1 to 8 studying in the schools under the Basic Education Council, would be promoted to the next class without examinations.
A notification in this regard was issued by Pratap Singh Baghel, secretary, UP Basic Education Council.
The notification is issued every year as there is a provision to promote children from Class one to eight to the next class under the Right to Education Act. They cannot fail under any circumstances.

Prof. Renu Cheema Vig New Vice Chancellor of Panjab University

The vice-president of India appointed Prof. Renu Cheema Vig as the vice chancellor of Panjab University (PU), making her the first woman to hold the position in the varsity's 141-year history.
Exercising the powers conferred by Section 10 of the Panjab University Act, 1947, vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar, who also holds the position of PU's chancellor, made the appointment for a term of three years.
An alumna of Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Vig joined PU's University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) as reader (associate in professor) in 2003.

BHU Introduces New Scheme for International PhD Scholars

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) launched a new scheme to provide support to international research scholars. The scheme is aimed at facilitating and promoting excellence in research as well as financial support to international PhD scholars who do not have any other fellowship.
As per the new initiative, international scholars will be given a credit incentive of Rs. 40,000. This credit can be utilised to pay the user charges for the equipment at BHU for research work. Additionally, if the research scholar is a first author in a Q1 or Q2 journal, a further credit of Rs. 30,000 will be provided.
The scheme launched under IoE initiative of the Government of India will also offer financial support of Rs. 8,000 per month to the international PhD students at BHU, who don't have any other fellowship.
