World Poetry Day

World Poetry Day is celebrated every year on the 21st of March. This day is dedicated to poetry and the celebration of literature in all forms.
The day was first approved by the UNESCO in 1999, and it was established with the goal of encouraging and supporting regional, national, and international poetic movements. The UNESCO also noted that the day would serve as a platform for the promotion of linguistic diversity.
"Standing on the Shoulders of Giants" is the theme for World Poetry Day 2024. The theme highlights iconic writers of the past whose trailblazing works enlarged poetry's footprint across cultures.

World Forestry Day

World Forestry Day is celebrated annually on March 21.
The idea of World Forestry Day was proposed in 1971 by the General Assembly of the European Confederation of Agriculture. March 21 was chosen by the United Nations as it aligns with the Vernal Equinox and Autumn Equinox in the northern and southern hemispheres, respectively.
The theme for World Forestry Day 2024, 'Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World,' highlights the importance of forests in fostering innovation and addressing global challenges.

French Language Day

On March 20, the United Nations celebrates French Language Day. This is one of the six official languages celebrated by the UN each year.
French Language Day is a day to celebrate the French language and its culture, raises awareness about the history and use of the French language worldwide and it promotes multilingualism and cultural diversity around the world.
French Language Day was started in 2010 through an initiative of the United Nations Department of Public Information. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness and respect for the culture, history and achievements of the six major languages of the people of the world. The other five official languages of the United Nations include Arabic, Russian, Chinese, English and Spanish.
It was decided by the UN that French Language Day would be observed on this day as it is the anniversary of the International Organization of La Francophonie. This is the organization that represents French-speaking countries and was founded on March 20, 1970.

World Oral Health Day

World Oral Health Day is celebrated every year on March 20 to spread awareness around oral health and its intricate link with the overall health.
The history of World Oral Health Day dates back to 2007, when it was first established. Earlier, the date for World Oral Health Day was set for September 12 but since this date coincides with the birthday of FDI founder Dr. Charles Godon (September 12), therefore in 2013, the date of World Oral Health Day was changed and set for March 20.
The theme of World Oral Health Day 2024 is 'A Happy Mouth is A Happy Body'.

International Day of Happiness

The International Day of Happiness (also known as World Happiness Day) is celebrated annually on March 20. As the name suggests, the International Day of Happiness is a day to be happy because happiness is a fundamental human goal.
International Day of Happiness, established by the United Nations General Assembly on June 28, 2012, was first observed in 2013 by the United Nations.
The theme for International Day of Happiness 2024 is 'Reconnecting for Happiness: Building Resilient Communities'.

Ordnance Factory Day (India)

Ordnance Factories are a branch of the government that is engaged in the research and development of weapons for the military, testing, producing, performing logistics and marketing them. Ordnance Factory Day is observed on March 18, annually in India.
Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) was founded in 1775 and its Headquarters is in Ayudh Bhawan, Kolkata. OFB consists of 41 Ordnance Factories, 9 Training Institutes, 3 Regional Marketing Centres and 5 Regional Controllerates of Safety, which is spread all over India.
Ordnance Factories Day 2024 theme is "Operational Efficiency, Readiness, and Mission Accomplishment in the Maritime Domain".

Israel to Commemorate October 7 as National Remembrance Day

Israel's government decided to establish a National Remembrance Day for the October 7 attack by Hamas that triggered the war in Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said.
The commemoration, unanimously approved by the government, will involve two state ceremonies to mark the disaster.
One event will honour soldiers who died in the war, while the other will pay tribute to civilians who were murdered in acts of terrorism.
According to an AFP tally of Israeli figures, the unprecedented Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7 resulted in the deaths of about 1,160 people, mostly civilians.
Israel's retaliatory military campaign to eliminate Hamas has killed at least 31,645 people in Gaza, mostly women and children.

National Vaccination Day

National Vaccination Day or National Immunisation Day is celebrated in India on March 16 every year to raise awareness about the significance of vaccines in the human body. The day is also used to pay tribute to the healthcare providers who work tirelessly to ensure the vaccination of everyone.
The history of National Vaccination Day dates back to 1995, when the government of India first established the Pulse Polio Immunisation program with an aim to eradicate polio from the country. The day commemorates the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which began in 1988, with the first dose of the oral polio vaccine being administered in India on 16 March 1995.

World Consumer Rights Day

The World Consumer Rights Day is observed annually on March 15 across the globe. As the name suggests, this day serves as a reminder of adequate information regarding the quantity, quality, purity, potency, price, and standard of the commodity including the importance of protecting consumer rights. World Consumer Rights Day empowers consumers by raising awareness about their rights and responsibilities in the marketplace. It also highlights the need for fair and ethical business practices, holding businesses accountable for upholding consumer rights.
The seeds of World Consumer Rights Day had been planted by former President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, on March 15, 1962, while addressing consumer rights before the US Congress. This was the first time a world leader spoke about consumer rights. This day was first observed on March 15, 1983, and since then, the United Nations has recognised and endorsed World Consumer Rights Day on a global scale.
The theme selected by Consumers International for World Consumer Rights Day 2024 is 'Fair and responsible AI for consumers.' This theme highlights the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at breakneck speed and the need to move quickly to ensure a fair and responsible AI future when it comes to consumer rights.
