The idea of World Forestry Day was proposed in 1971 by the General Assembly of the European Confederation of Agriculture. March 21 was chosen by the United Nations as it aligns with the Vernal Equinox and Autumn Equinox in the northern and southern hemispheres, respectively.

French Language Day
On March 20, the United Nations celebrates French Language Day. This is one of the six official languages celebrated by the UN each year.
French Language Day is a day to celebrate the French language and its culture, raises awareness about the history and use of the French language worldwide and it promotes multilingualism and cultural diversity around the world.
French Language Day was started in 2010 through an initiative of the United Nations Department of Public Information. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness and respect for the culture, history and achievements of the six major languages of the people of the world. The other five official languages of the United Nations include Arabic, Russian, Chinese, English and Spanish.
It was decided by the UN that French Language Day would be observed on this day as it is the anniversary of the International Organization of La Francophonie. This is the organization that represents French-speaking countries and was founded on March 20, 1970.
World Oral Health Day
World Oral Health Day is celebrated every year on March 20 to spread awareness around oral health and its intricate link with the overall health.
The history of World Oral Health Day dates back to 2007, when it was first established. Earlier, the date for World Oral Health Day was set for September 12 but since this date coincides with the birthday of FDI founder Dr. Charles Godon (September 12), therefore in 2013, the date of World Oral Health Day was changed and set for March 20.
The theme of World Oral Health Day 2024 is 'A Happy Mouth is A Happy Body'.

Israel to Commemorate October 7 as National Remembrance Day
Israel's government decided to establish a National Remembrance Day for the October 7 attack by Hamas that triggered the war in Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said.
The commemoration, unanimously approved by the government, will involve two state ceremonies to mark the disaster.
One event will honour soldiers who died in the war, while the other will pay tribute to civilians who were murdered in acts of terrorism.
According to an AFP tally of Israeli figures, the unprecedented Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7 resulted in the deaths of about 1,160 people, mostly civilians.
