INS Khukri Decommissioned after 32 Years of Service

India's first indigenously built missile corvettes, INS Khukri (P49), was decommissioned after 32 years of service at Visakhapatnam.
INS Khukri was built by the Mazagon Dock shipbuilders on August 23, 1989.
It had the distinction of being part of Western as well as Eastern Fleets.
In her service to Indian Navy, the ship was commanded by 28 commanding officers.
It traversed a distance of more than 6,44,897 nautical miles, equivalent to navigating across the world 30 times or three times the distance between the Moon and the Earth.
The ship was affiliated with the Gorkha Brigade of the Indian Army.

India Gives Food Aid, Defence Equipment to Mozambique

India handed over two Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC) and other self defence equipment to Mozambique to assist in its capacity building as the Central African nation battles growing terror threats. Naval ship INS Kesari entered Port of Maputo in Mozambique to deliver 500 tonnes of food aid as well as the defence equipment, under the eight edition of Mission Sagar by the Navy to assist friendly foreign countries in the region.
These deployments were conducted in solidarity with India's extended Maritime Neighbourhood and highlights the importance accorded by India to these special relationships, 500 tonnes of food aid was shipped by INS Kesari to support the efforts of Government of Mozambique to cope with ongoing drought and concurrent challenges of pandemic.

Russia to Hold Paratrooper Drills Near Ukrainian Border

Hundreds of Russian paratroopers will hold drills near the Ukrainian border this week, amid a standoff between Moscow and the West over Kyiv's NATO aspirations.
Some 1,200 troops and over 250 vehicles and aircraft will be involved in the exercise that will be split between training grounds in Crimea - which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014 - and the nearby Krasnodar province.
The troops would simulate capturing an area as part of an offensive operation.
Russia has amassed tens of thousands of troops at staging posts close to Ukraine and demanded that its southern neighbour not be admitted to NATO and that no offensive weapons be deployed there or in other neighbouring countries.

Army Launches Messaging Application

The Indian Army launched a new messaging application called ASIGMA for in-house communication. ASIGMA, which stands for Army Secure IndiGeneous Messaging Application, has been developed entirely in-house by a team of officers of the Corps of Signals.
The new application is being deployed on the Army's internal network as a replacement of Army Wide Area Network (AWAN) messaging application which has been in service for the past 15 years.
ASIGMA has been fielded on Army-owned hardware and lends itself to lifetime support with future upgrades.

Tri-service Exercise Carried Out in Nicobar Islands

A multi-domain tri-service exercise is currently in progress in the strategically important Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
As part of the exercise, troops of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force were mobilised for an amphibious landing, in close co-ordination with the para drop of airborne troops.
The rapid response capability of Shatrujeet Brigade was validated wherein the paratroopers, who had moved from the mainland, executed an airborne drop in the island territory of Andamans in a realistic tactical setting under the overall command and control of Andaman and Nicobar Command, the only joint-service operational command of the defence forces of the India.

India Ready to Assist Countries in Bay of Bengal Region

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that India will assist countries in the Bay of Bengal region in all possible ways and develop measures for regional cooperation in disaster relief.
Singh was speaking at PANEX-21, a multi-agency exercise of the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) countries. The exercise was conducted at the College of Military Engineering in Pune.
The multinational exercise aimed to foster jointness and develop capabilities in disaster management aspects for the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) nations.
The BIMSTEC regional organisation comprises Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand, besides India.

India Successfully Tests 'Pralay' Missile off Odisha Coast

India successfully test-fired short-range surface to surface-guided ballistic missile 'Pralay' off the Odisha coast.
The solid-fuel, battlefield missile developed by Defence Research Development Organisation is based on Prithvi Defence Vehicle from the Indian ballistic missile programme.
The missile, launched from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island, met all the mission objectives.
'Pralay' is a 350-500 km short-range, surface-to-surface missile with a payload capacity of 500-1,000 kg.
