Launch of Third ACTCM Barge

  • Third Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge, LSAM 17 (Yard 127) was launched by Cmde V. Pravin, AWPS (Mbi) at M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd, Thane. With all major and auxiliary equipment/systems sourced from indigenous manufacturers, this Barge is a proud flag bearer of 'Make in India' initiative of Ministry of Defence.
  • The MSME shipyard has successfully delivered two Barges. These Barges are being built under the classification rules of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). The availability of ACTCM Barges will provide impetus to operational commitments of Indian Navy by facilitating embarkation and disembarkation of articles / ammunition to Indian Navy Ships both alongside jetties and at outer harbours.

Army Celebrates 'Shaurya Diwas' to Mark Landing of Forces in Kashmir in 1947

  • The army celebrated the 'Shaurya Diwas' to mark the 76th year of the landing of forces in Kashmir which ensured the first civil-military victory of Independent India. The Indian Army troops landed at the Budgam Airport to evict Pakistani forces from Jammu and Kashmir, a day after the Instrument of Accession was signed between Maharaja Hari Singh and the Republic of India.
  • During the 'Shaurya Diwas' organised on Friday, a replication of the historic event was performed to pay obeisance to the brave soldiers and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Zen Technologies Secures Order from MoD for Tank Training System

  • Zen Technologies Limited secured a Rs. 100 crore (inclusive of GST) order from the Ministry of Defence for its advanced force-on-force tank training system, enabling tank units to train in real terrains without live ammunition.
  • The force-on-force tank training system, designed and developed in-house, received approval from the army after extensive trials, indicating potential demand in domestic and international markets. Zen is optimistic about the army's potential adoption of the Zen Armoured Combat Training System (ACTS) for comprehensive combined arms training.

In a First, India, EU Carry Out Joint Naval Drills in Gulf of Guinea

  • India and the European Union carried out their first joint naval exercise in the Gulf of Guinea reflecting growing maritime security cooperation between the two sides. The exercise took place around three weeks after the EU-India Maritime Security Dialogue in Brussels deliberated on ways to expand cooperation in the maritime sphere.
  • During the exercise, Indian Navy's INS Sumedha, an offshore patrol vessel, was joined by Italian Navy ship ITS Foscari, French Navy Ship FS Ventose, and Spanish Navy Ship Tornado representing the EU.
  • The four ships practised a series of tactical manoeuvres in international waters off the coast of Ghana, including a boarding exercise, a flying exercise using the helicopters embarked on French ship Ventose and Indian Naval ship Sumedha, and transfer of personnel between ships.

BRO Completes Kandi Tunnel ahead of Schedule in J&K

  • The Border Road Organisation (BRO) said that it has achieved a significant milestone by completing 260 meters-long Kandi Tunnel ahead of schedule in the ongoing Project Sampark on National Highway 144A (NH144A) which connects Akhnoor with Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The BRO said that this crucial project has been divided into eight packages, and there is a remarkable progress in enhancing the horizontal and vertical profile of the road.
  • Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said that in a commendable feat of engineering, the first four tunnels including 260 meters Kandi Tunnel has achieved its breakthrough.

Indian Army's First Vertical Wind Tunnel Installed at Special Forces Training School in HP

  • A state-of-the-art wind tunnel, a first-of-its-kind in the Indian Army, that offers a controlled environment to enable military trainees to enhance their skills by simulating real-life free fall conditions, was inaugurated at a training school in Himachal Pradesh. Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande virtually inaugurated 'Indian Army's first Vertical Wind Tunnel (VWT)'.
  • Installation of the first VWT is aligned with the current impetus given to modernising the training infrastructure in the Indian Army.

Twelve Nations to Take Part in Maritime Conclave in Goa

  • Twelve countries of the Indian Ocean will participate in the 4th edition of the Goa Maritime Conclave between October 29 and 31.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will deliver the keynote address at the event, in which Bangladesh, Comoros, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand will take part. The theme is "Maritime security in the Indian Ocean region: Converting common maritime priorities into collaborative mitigating frameworks".

Pakistan Tests Ghauri Weapon System

  • Pakistan successfully conducted a training launch of the Ghauri weapon system, a week after holding the flight test of the ballistic missile Ababeel Weapon System.
  • The purpose of the launch is aimed at testing the operational and technical readiness of Army Strategic Forces Command.
