Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet Ships in Manila to Participate in Maritime Partnership Exercise

  • Indian Navy ships INS Delhi, INS Shakti and INS Kiltan reached Manila, Philippines, to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and maritime cooperation between the two countries.
  • During the visit, personnel from both navies will engage in a wide range of professional interactions, including Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE), sports fixtures, cross-deck visits, cultural visits, and collaborative community outreach programmes.
  • During the visit, the ships will also participate in a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) with the Philippine Navy.

Indian Army Reduces Ammunition Imports, Boosts Indigenous Production under 'Make in India' Policy

  • The Indian Army has drastically reduced its dependence on imported ammunition, aligning with the 'Make in India' policy. Senior defence officials emphasized the crucial role of private sector industries in achieving this milestone.
  • The Indian Army, with an annual budget of around Rs. 20,000 crore for ammunition, previously allocated 35-40% for imports. This figure has now been cut to less than 10%, with plans to reduce it further. "Now, that requirement has been cut down to less than 10 per cent, and we are looking to reduce it further in the next couple of years," defence officials told ANI. The indigenisation effort includes ammunition for various weapon systems like tanks, artillery guns, air defence missiles, and grenade launchers.

  • Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers A. Y. V. Krishna and N. Venu Gopal were appointed as additional directors in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Their appointments underscore the government's commitment to bolstering the investigative capabilities of the premier investigative agency.
  • A. Y. V. Krishna, a distinguished 1995-batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. His tenure as additional director extends up to August 6, 2028, as per the order issued by the Personnel Ministry.
  • The tenure of N. Venu Gopal, a seasoned IPS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, is effective until May 24, 2027.

Pakistan Successfully Tests Precision-Guided 'Fatah-II' Rocket

  • Pakistan conducted a successful training launch of guided multi-launch rocket system 'Fatah-II', which is capable of engaging targets with high precision up to a range of 400 km. The launch of Fatah-II Guided Rocket System was aimed at perfecting the launch drills and procedures.
  • Moreover, the army also announced that Fatah -II is being inducted in Pakistan's Artillery Divisions for stand-off, precision engagement of deep targets, and its induction would significantly upgrade the reach and lethality of the army's conventional arsenal.

  • Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientists successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the indigenously developed Agni-5 missile with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology.
  • The flight test was named Mission Divyastra. It was carried out from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha. Various telemetry and radar stations tracked and monitored multiple re-entry vehicles. The mission accomplished the designed parameters.
