India, Qatar Discuss Sale of Mirage 2000 Fighters to IAF

A delegation from Qatar is in New Delhi to negotiate the potential sale of 12 "sparingly used" Mirage 2000 jets to the Indian Air Force. This deal would provide the air force with more combat aircraft at a time when the force's older MiG fighters are gradually being phased out of service.
The two Mirage squadrons now in use by the air force might benefit from the inclusion of the Qatari aircraft, which are outfitted in accordance with the modernization criteria for the Mirage 2000-5. The French-built Mirage 2000s, which were one of the IAF's staple strike aircraft, are no longer in production but should remain in the Indian inventory for ten more years.
After a thorough evaluation of the planes, the deal's ultimate cost will be determined; it is anticipated to fall between Rs 6,000 and 7,000 crore, as per the report. The number of flight hours an aircraft has depends on its residual life. According to the report, it is estimated that significant residual life remains, which will benefit the two present squadrons in continuing to be strong in the years to come.
The aircraft will be delivered with weapons and spares, and India is expected to drive a hard bargain for them. Given that Gwalior already has ground equipment and maintenance facilities in place, as well as enough pilots and technical support staff, it should be easy to integrate the aircraft into the combat strength.

Rear Admiral Nelson D'Souza Takes Over as Commandant, Military Institute of Technology, Pune

Rear Admiral Nelson D'Souza took over as Commandant of Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Pune from Air Vice Marshal Vivek Blouria. An accomplished alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and Naval War College, Goa, Rear Admiral D'Souza has served in numerous key positions within the Indian Navy since his commissioning in March 1991.
Rear Admiral will focus on further strengthening MILIT's academic programmes and give a push to ongoing efforts at Jointness & Integration in training among tri-services and enhancing collaboration with the industry and academia in field of Niche Technologies. Under the new leadership, MILIT aims to continue nurturing highly skilled techno-warriors officers who would chart the course of armed forces in India into a future-ready force.

Indian Armed Forces Unveil Unified Cyberspace Doctrine

Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan released the Joint Doctrine for Cyberspace Operations during the Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) meeting, in New Delhi. The Joint Doctrine is a keystone publication that will guide Commanders in conducting Cyberspace Operations in today's complex military operating environment.
Development of Joint Doctrines is an important aspect of Jointness and Integration, a step which is being actively pursued by the Indian Armed Forces. The Joint Doctrine for Cyberspace Operations is a significant step to give impetus to the ongoing process. In addition to the traditional domains of warfare including Land, Sea, and Air, Cyberspace has emerged as a crucial and challenging domain in modern warfare. Unlike territorial limits in the domains of land, sea, and air, cyberspace is a global common and hence has shared sovereignty.
This doctrine lays emphasis on understanding military aspects of cyberspace operations and provides conceptual guidance to commanders, staff and practitioners in the planning, and conduct of operations in cyberspace, as also to raise awareness in our warfighters at all levels.

Lt Gen N. S. Raja Subramani Next Vice Chief of Army Staff

Lt Gen N. S. Raja Subramani was named the next Vice Chief of Army Staff with the government clearing his appointment to the post. The officer, who is presently helming the Army's Central Command, will succeed Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi.
Lt Gen Dwivedi, currently serving as the Vice Chief, will be the next Chief of the Army Staff when incumbent Gen Manoj Pande retires on June 30.
Lt Gen Subramani was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in 1985. He has a distinguished and illustrious military career spanning more than 37 years.
An alumnus of National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy, the officer also attended the Joint Services Command Staff College, Bracknell (the UK) and National Defence College, New Delhi.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Gets Rs. 50,000 Crore Tender for Combat Helicopters

The UK Ministry of Defence awarded a unique contract worth approximately Rs. 50,000 crore to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a well-known Indian state-owned aerospace and military business. This is the largest single order for helicopters ever given to an Indian business. The funds will be utilized to purchase Light Combat Helicopters (LCHs), often known as "Prachand."
This tender, which was handled through the Single Vendor Contract (SVC) method, is only going to HAL. The company is now going to make a techno-commercial bid, which will be talked over with the defense minister until it is agreed upon.

DRDO, Indian Firms Showcase Made in India Weapons, Tech at Paris Defence Show

Indian defence sector firms from both public and private sectors are participating in the EUROSATORY 2024 defence show in Paris, France, which will conclude on June 21.
The exhibition is showcasing Indian products like the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher system and the LCA Tejas fighter aircraft.
The India pavilion at the show was inaugurated by Indian Ambassador to France Jawed Ashraf.
A large number of Indian companies are taking part in the show with the DRDO showcasing 11 major defence technologies and products.

Indian Army Launches First-of-its-kind Skin Bank for Treatment of Severe Burn Injuries

The Indian Army launched a first-of-its-kind skin bank facility that aims to revolutionise the treatment of severe burn injuries and other skin-related conditions for service personnel and their families.
As per the defence ministry, the skin bank will be staffed by a team of highly-trained medical professionals, including plastic surgeons, tissue engineers and specialised technicians.
This bank will serve as a centralised hub for the collection, processing, storage and distribution of skin grafts, providing a "critical resource" for military medical centres across the country.
