NITI Aayog hosted the first Shoonya Forum to commemorate the first anniversary of India's zero pollution e-mobility campaign in Delhi. On the occasion, more than 25 Shoonya partners announced their commitment and pledged to accelerate India's clean mobility story with Electric Vehicles to improve air quality for Indian citizens. A three-report series highlighting the economic opportunities that an indigenous battery industry presents for India was released during the event.
EVs emit no tailpipe emissions, which can contribute immensely to improved air quality. They emit 15 to 40 percent less carbon dioxide compared to their internal combustion engine counterparts and have lower operational cost even during their manufacture.

India's First Plastic Project Listed by EKI Energy Services Ltd

Carbon credit developer and supplier EKI Energy Services (EKI) listed a plastic project from India under a global accreditation standard, becoming the first company to do so.
With this, the Indore-based carbon credit expert that has been working in the realm of climate action and offset solutions since the last 14 years across 16 countries, has become the first ever firm to list a plastic project from the country with an aim to generate India's first-ever international plastic credits.
The project ensures that plastic waste -- predominantly Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) waste, PET flakes and chips -- is duly sourced and recycled to produce Recycled Polyester Staple Fibre (RPSF) that can be further used in the textile industry for garments and other fabric-based utility products.

Australian Senate Passes Law for 43% Greenhouse Gas Reduction

Australia's Senate voted to ensure the government's elevated target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 43% below 2005 levels by the end of the decade is enshrined in law.
The Senate passed legislation supporting the target in a vote of 37 to 30 even though several senators who supported it wanted a more ambitious 2030 target.
Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen said that the Senate vote provided certainty to clean energy investors while strengthening transparency and accountability in Australia's carbon reduction processes.

Enigmatic Reef-Like Structure Discovered in Australia

An analysis of advanced satellite images from the German Aerospace Centre revealed an ancient landform with a circular rim and central dome 'hidden' in plain view on the Nullarbor Plain in Australia.
The Nullarbor Plain is a 200,000 km2 karst surface in southern Australia, underlain by ancient shallow-water limestones.
The plain, which emerged from the ocean about 14 million years ago, is relatively flat with a general relief of less than 10 m.
It is bounded to the north by the Great Victoria Desert, while abruptly terminating to the south, with up to 90 m high cliffs facing the Southern Ocean.
"Unlike many parts of the world, large areas of the Nullarbor Plain have remained largely unchanged by weathering and erosion processes over millions of years, making it a unique geological canvas recording ancient history in remarkable ways.
