Anantha Chandrakasan Becomes First Indian-Born Provost of MIT

DU Launches JAIHIND Scheme to Upskill ST Students from Across Country

  • Delhi University has launched an initiative to impart basic computer skills and training for higher education, including the application process for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), to Scheduled Tribes (ST) students from Classes 9 to 12 across India, particularly those living in remote parts.
  • The Janajati Immersive Holistic Intervention for Novel Development (JAIHIND) scheme's first batch of 25 students, including 12 girls and 13 boys from the Ukhrul district of Manipur, selected on the basis of their academic merit, started their training on Tuesday. The inaugural two-week programme will continue till June 29, said Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh.

IIT Madras, Samsung Partner to Push Research in AI and Health Technologies

  • In a move to strengthen collaboration between industry and academia, the Samsung R&D Institute, Noida (SRI-N) entered into a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). The partnership will centre on research in artificial intelligence, particularly its applications in Indian languages, healthcare technology, and emerging areas like generative AI.
  • Signed by SRI-N Managing Director Kyungyun Roo and IIT Madras Director Professor V Kamakoti, the agreement outlines a range of joint initiatives. These include sponsored research projects, consultancy work, technology transfer, training programmes, infrastructure development, and student fellowships.

IIT Guwahati to Host Indo-Danish Research Centre with Joint Postgraduate Programmes

  • Strengthening its global academic ties, IIT Guwahati partnered with the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) to launch collaborative efforts in research, education, and innovation. The agreement marks a notable step in Indo-Danish academic relations, with both institutions aiming to work on sustainable technologies and future-ready education models.
  • The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed by Professor Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, and Professor Henrik Bindslev, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at SDU.
  • The MoU also opens the door to joint Master's and PhD programmes, where students will be co-supervised and their academic credits recognised across both institutions. Additionally, student and faculty exchange programmes will enable cross-cultural learning and skill development.

IIT Bombay Most Preferred again in JEE Advanced 2025 First Seat Allotment

  • The results of the first round of seat allotment by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for 2025 reaffirm a familiar pattern: IIT Bombay continued to be the top choice among the country's highest JEE Advanced rankers.
  • According to the data released by IIT Kanpur, which is overseeing the JEE Advanced and JoSAA counselling process this year (2025), 78 of the top 100 candidates have chosen to study at IIT Bombay. Amongst the top 10 rankers, nine had registered for JoSAA, and all nine opted for this Mumbai-based IIT—cementing its reputation as the most sought-after institute in the country.

IGNOU Launches First MSc in Home Science, Focusing on Community Development

  • Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) introduced a new Master of Science (MSc) in Home Science with specialisation in Community Development and Extension Management. It is a two-year course for graduates who want to work in the development industry, overseeing community projects related to health, employment, education, and social change.
  • The course is provided by the School of Continuing Education and will be taught in English through Open Distance Learning (ODL). It's for Home Science graduates but also for others in Social Sciences, Behavioural Sciences, and other disciplines who desire to work at the community level.

India Slips to 131st Position in Global Gender Gap Index 2025 (15)

  • India ranked 131 out of 148 countries in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2025, slipping two places from its position last year (2024).
  • With a parity score of just 64.1 per cent, India is among the lowest-ranked countries in South Asia, according to the report.
  • The Global Gender Gap Index measures gender parity across four key dimensions: Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment.
