In a First for T.N., Chennai Metro Rail Becomes 'Green Corridor' to Transport Lungs for Transplan...

For the first time in Tamil Nadu, the Chennai Metro Rail turned into a 'green corridor' in November 2025 and helped transport a pair of lungs harvested from a deceased donor in Bengaluru to Apollo Hospitals on Greams Road for transplantation. In 21 minutes, the lungs were transported from the Meenambakkam Metro to AG-DMS Metro, covering 10.82 km across seven stations.

IIT-Kharagpur, German University Alliance Sign Agreement for Joint Research, Student Exchanges

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) signed an MoU with the Rhine-Main Universities (RMU), a strategic university alliance in Germany.
The agreement was signed at TU Darmstadt, Germany, in the presence of a delegation led by Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT-Kharagpur, along with Ramanuj Banerjee, Counsellor (Science and Technology), Embassy of India, Berlin, and other officials. This partnership establishes a powerful framework for joint research, faculty and student exchanges, academic networking and collaborative educational and cultural initiatives across diverse disciplines.
It also marks IIT Kharagpur's formal induction into the RMU's international network 'RM Universe', enabling participation in joint research proposals, fellowships, lecture series and student research stays in Germany.

CBSE Hosts First International Sahodaya Conference in Dubai

For the first time, the Sahodaya School Complex conference, a flagship forum of the CBSE, moved beyond Indian shores held internationally. The event titled '1st International & 31st Annual Conference of Sahodaya School Complexes – 2025' took place in Dubai, gathering over 1,000 school leaders, educators and stakeholders from CBSE�'affiliated institutions across India and abroad. The theme is 'Rooted in Wisdom, Rising with Vision: Reimagining Education through NEP 2020'.
Organised by the Central Board of Secondary Education and guided by the National Education Policy 2020, the conference serves as a platform for exploring future-ready learning while blending India's educational ethos with global aspirations.

QS Asia Rankings 2026: IITs Slip as China, Singapore Soar

The QS Asia University Rankings 2026 revealed a sobering trend for India's premier institutions: even as scores improved, rankings declined—a signal of intensifying regional competition. Among the top 10 Indian universities, nine dropped in rank, with several IITs hitting their lowest positions in years. The setback came as institutions in China, Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia accelerated ahead, driven by globalisation, better research performance, and superior faculty-student ratios.
IIT Delhi remains India's top-ranked institute but fell 15 places to 59th position.
IIT Bombay witnessed the sharpest fall, dropping 23 ranks from 48 to 71.
IISc Bangalore maintained a relatively stable position, ranking 64th this year.
The University of Hong Kong topped the rankings followed by Peking University-China.

Maldives Enacts World's First Generational Smoking Ban

In a globally unprecedented move, the Maldives implemented a generational smoking ban, prohibiting anyone born after January 1, 2007 from purchasing, using or selling tobacco in all its forms. Effective November 2025, this policy makes the Indian Ocean island nation the first and only country in the world with such a law in place, reflecting a radical push toward public health protection and youth well-being.
The South Asian island nation also maintains a comprehensive ban on the import, sale, distribution, possession, and use of electronic cigarettes and vaping products, applicable to all individuals regardless of age.

MICA Launches Social Media Influencer Programme for Digital Creators

Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad's institute for Strategic Marketing and Communications, announced the launch of The Social Media Influencer Programme, a 25-week online course aimed at equipping aspiring and existing content creators with the tools to build sustainable, strategy-driven digital careers.
The programme is designed to address the challenges of India's expanding creator economy, part of a global industry valued at over $250 billion. The new initiative seeks to bridge this gap by offering a structured curriculum that combines academic insight, business understanding, and real-world application.
The course will train participants in personal branding, content strategy, and the use of emerging technologies such as generative AI for scalable content creation. It will also guide creators in brand collaborations, revenue generation, and audience engagement across multiple platforms.
