IIT Hyderabad, DGQA Partner for MTech Programmes

To foster innovation and academic collaboration, the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) joined forces to launch a range of academic programmes.
The MoU was exchanged between R. A. Govardhan, Officiating Director, DIQA, and Prof. B. S. Murty, Director, IITH at the IIT campus.
The partnership includes a diverse spectrum of themes and fields of interest, notably including Software Engineering and Testing, AI, Quality Management, Data Sciences, Micro Electronics and VLSI, Communications and Signal Processing, Integrated Computational Material Engineering, EV Technologies, and Smart Mobility.

Bengal Governor Collaborates with ISRO to Combat Ragging on Campuses

West Bengal Governor, C. V. Ananda Bose, took a significant step to address the pervasive issue of ragging on college and university campuses by seeking the expertise of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to develop a suitable technological solution.
The urgency of this action was underscored by a tragic incident earlier this month (August 2023), where a first-year undergraduate student from Jadavpur University lost his life after reportedly falling victim to ragging and sexual harassment within a university hostel. This unfortunate event prompted widespread outrage and concern throughout West Bengal.

2 Indian Languages for Classes 9-10, 1 for Classes 11-12

Students in classes 9 and 10 will now have to mandatorily study three languages, including two Indian native ones, while students in classes 11-12 will have to study one Indian and one other language, according to the New Curriculum Framework (NCF). The NCF has been prepared according to the new National Education Policy (NEP) by the national steering committee, headed by former ISRO chief K. Kasturirangan.
At present, class 9 and 10 students study two mandatory languages and class 11 and 12 students study one language. So far, the students from 9 to 12 have to mandatorily study five subjects with an option of adding one additional subject. According to the recommendations made in NCF, the number of mandatory subjects will be seven for classes 9-10 and six for classes 11-12.

UP Cabinet Approves 18 'Atal Residential' Schools

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved developing 18 Atal Residential Schools along the lines of the centre-run Navodaya Vidyalayas at a cost of Rs. 1,250 crore.
The 18 Atal Residential Schools will come up in all 18 divisions of Uttar Pradesh.
The capacity of these schools will be 1,000 students, including 500 girls and as many boys. It will have classes from six to twelve. Children whose studies were affected by Covid-19 pandemic can also get admission to these schools.

Former President Ram Nath Kovind Inaugurates Kerala's First AI School

Kerala took a significant step towards the integration of technology in education with the inauguration of its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) school in Thiruvananthapuram. The inauguration ceremony, graced by former President Ram Nath Kovind, marked a transformative moment for education in the state.
The pioneering AI School, located at Santhigiri Vidyabhavan, has been developed in collaboration with iLearning Engines (ILE) USA, a globally renowned educational platform, and Vedhik eSchool.
The launch of Kerala's first AI School ushers in a new era of education, combining technology, innovation, and accessibility to pave the way for a brighter future for students.

IIT Jodhpur's IDRP Hosts Workshop Unveiling the Potential of IoT and its Applications

The Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Jodhpur conducted the 1st Internet of Things and Applications Workshop (IoTA 2023), a thrilling two-day event. The workshop featured talks by eminent speakers from academia, industry, and R&D organisations, focusing on the above IoT applications.
The topics of discussion during the Internet of Things and Applications Workshop (IoTA 2023) were Industrial IoT, IoT in Healthcare, Smart Homes and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
The workshop successfully achieved its aims by shedding light on the immense potential of IoT applications, igniting motivation among participants to explore research avenues and engage in product development within this dynamic field. Serving as a fertile ground for budding researchers, the event facilitated insightful exchanges of ideas, enabling robust discussions on challenges, solutions, and emerging research opportunities.

Boards Exams Twice a Year, Best Score to be Retained

Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan announced that the new curriculum framework (NCF) as per National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is ready and textbooks for the same will be developed for the 2024 academic session.
As per the NCF, the board exams will be conducted twice a year and students will be allowed to retain the best score. This is being done to ensure students have enough time and opportunity to perform well. Students can then appear for a board exam in subjects they have completed and feel ready for.

Karnataka Government to Replace NEP 2020 with New State Education Policy

The Karnataka government decided to scrap the National Education Policy from the next academic year and a new state education policy will be formulated, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar announced.
"We have examined various aspects of the National Education Policy that was adopted by BJP and we have decided to scrap it," said Shivakumar.
Addressing a Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) meeting at the party office, CM Siddaramaiah said that the NEP must be abolished with necessary preparations which could not be done this year on time.

India Secures Second Rank at 16th IOAA in Chorzów, Poland

With four gold medals and one silver medal, India secured second rank at the 16th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) in Chorzów, Poland. The United Kingdom clinched the lead with five gold medals.
A total of 236 students from 50 nations participated at the Olympiad, collectively earning 27 gold, 41 silver, and 50 bronze medals across all categories. Rajdeep Mishra from Kota, Rajasthan, Koduru Tejeswar from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, Md. Sahil Akhtar from Kolkata, West Bengal, Akarsh Raj Sahay from Nagpur, Maharashtra were awarded gold medals, while Sainavaneet Mukund from Bangalore, Karnataka was awarded a silver medal. The team was led by Prof. Surhud More from IUCAA, Pune, and Pritesh Ranadive from HBCSE-TIFR, Mumbai.
