Hyderabad Bags 'World Green City Award 2022'

Hyderabad won the overall 'World Green City Award 2022' and another in the category 'Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth' at the International Association of Horticulture Producers (AIPH) 2022 World Green City Awards 2022 held in Jeju, South Korea.
As per report, Hyderabad was the only Indian city selected and it is a matter of pride for Telangana and India that won not only the category award but the overall 'World Green City 2022' award, the best across all 6 categories.

YSR Lifetime Achievement Awards Announced

The State government has announced the YSR Lifetime Achievement and YSR Achievement-2022 Awards, which will be presented on November 1, the State Formation Day.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has approved the awards, recommended by the High Power Steering Committee, Adviser to Government (Communications).
In selecting the awardees, utmost priority was given to individuals and organisations that influenced the society and left an indelible mark on it with their skills and talents in various fields.
Dr. YSR Lifetime Achievement Award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh, a bronze figurine of Dr. YSR, a memento and a commendation letter, while Dr. YSR Achievement Award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh, a memento and a commendation letter.
Announcing the winners, Mr. Krishna Mohan said all the awardees were commoners with uncommon contributions in their chosen field ranging from rural development to agriculture, culture, fine arts and traditions.
In all, 30 eminent institutions and personalities who excelled in the fields of education, medical, agriculture, women empowerment, fine arts and culture, literature and media were chosen for the prestigious awards initiated in memory of Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
YSR Achievement Awards in Agriculture will be given to Sodem Mukkaiah of Adivasi Cashewnut Farmers' Producer Company, Buttyagudem, Eluru; A. Gopalakrishna of Kusalava Coconut Farmers Producers Company, BR Ambedkar Konaseema district; Jayabba Naidu of Talupala village, Pileru Mandal, Annamaiah district representing Annamayya Mutually Aided Cooperative Society; K.LN. Mouktika, representing the Amrutha Phala Producers Company, Sabbavaram, Anakapalle district; and Kattamanchi Balakrishna Reddy, Kattamanchi Village, Chittoor district.
Veteran film director K. Viswanath, Veteran movie actor and director R. Narayana Murthy have been chosen for the YSR Lifetime Achievement Awards in Fine Arts and Culture.

Prakash Padukone, Badminton Legend Awarded with SJFI Medal

Badminton legend Prakash Padukone was awarded the Sports Journalists' Federation of India (SJFI) medal for 2019 at a warm ceremony at the Karnataka State Cricket Association.
The medal was instituted in 2018, with Vijay Amritraj the first winner. The award function for 2019 was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The attendees included former Indian batting champion V.V.S. Laxman, hockey stars Dhanraj Pillay and Arjun Halappa, international table tennis player Vasanth Bharadwaj, and badminton player Trupti Murgunde.
The SJFI's president, A. Vinod, greeted everyone.

International Climate Change Bodies Win Humanity Award

A prize worth 1 million euros ($970,000) was awarded to two intergovernmental bodies for their work on climate change.
Organizers of the annual Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity announced that this year's (2022) winners are the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is president of the prize's jury, said that the award would help keep the issue of climate change in the public mind even as Russia's war in Ukraine and its consequences compete for attention.
The IPCC is a U.N. body which since 1998 has encouraged scientific research and supported government efforts to combat climate change.
The prize was created in 2020 by the Lisbon, Portugal-based Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to recognise important contributions toward mitigating and adapting to climate change.

IISc Announces Distinguished Alumni Awards

Prof. Bharat Kumar Bhargava, Col (Retd) H. S. Shankar, Dr. Krishna Mohan Vadrevu, Dr. Krishnan Nandabalan and Prof. M. Narasimha Murty were selected for the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Distinguished Alumni Awards for the year 2022.
The annual awards recognise exceptional contributions made by IISc alumni/ae to their profession, society and the Institute.
The nominations received are evaluated by a committee chaired by the Director, IISc.

Aligarh Muslim University's Prof. Wazahat Husain Wins Top UAE Award for Alternative Medicine

Prof. Wazahat Husain, a leading academic from the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) won an international award for Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
Husain, a retired chairman of the Department of Botany at the AMU, received the Second Sheikh Zayed International Award in an event organised by the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation.
The Foundation is a UAE-based non-governmental, non-profit organisation that invests in developing human capital to improve the quality of life.
The award aims to give recognition to eminent academics and scientists of Traditional Complementary and Alternative Medicine (TCAM ) globally, and TCAM physicians from the UAE, for enhancing TCAM knowledge and practices, and contributing to improving the quality of life for humanity.

Former US Fed Chair Bernanke, Two Others Win Nobel Prize in Economics

The 2022 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences was awarded to the former chair of the US Federal Reserve, Ben S Bernanke, and two US-based economists, Douglas W. Diamond and Philip H. Dybvig, "for research on banks and financial crises." The prize was announced by the Nobel panel at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm.
The committee said that their work had shown in their research "why avoiding bank collapses is vital." Nobel Prizes carry a cash award of 10 million Swedish kronor (nearly $900,000) and will be handed out on Dec. 10.
Unlike the other prizes, the economics award wasn't established in Alfred Nobel's will of 1895 but by the Swedish central bank in his memory. The first winner was selected in 1969.

Former IIM Ahmedabad Director Bakul Dholakia Honoured with Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award

Former IIM Ahmedabad and Padma Shri Bakul Dholakia was conferred with the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award by vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar for his outstanding contribution in the field of management.
The award presented by the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh, a memento, and a citation.
Bakul Dholakia, a stalwart in the field of finance and management, made great strides as the IIM Ahmedabad Director. Among his mentee were the likes of Harsha Bhogle and Raghuram Rajan.
He was also the director general of the International Management Institute, Delhi. Prior to joining IMI, he was the director of Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management and Gujarat Adani Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhuj.
Dholakia is a gold medalist from Baroda University and holds a doctorate in Economics. He has 47 years of professional experience, including 33 years at IIM Ahmedabad.
