Odisha Wins World Habitat Award 2023 for its Jaga Mission

Odisha won the UN-Habitat's World Habitat Awards 2023 for Jaga Mission, a 5T initiative of the state.
The Jaga Mission is the land titling and slum upgrading program that aims at empowering the lives of slum dwellers.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Government of Odisha has set itself the ambitious target of becoming the first slum-free state in India and is leading the Jaga Mission programme to upgrade all of the state's 2,919 slums.
In 2019, Odisha's Jaga mission had received World Habitat Awards for its success in providing land tenure security to the slum dwellers.

Dr. Tapan Saikia to Receive Assam Highest Civilian Award 'Assam Baibhav'

The Assam government announced that it will confer the highest state civilian award 'Assam Baibhav' on Mumbai-based medical practitioner Dr. Tapan Saikia for his contribution towards cancer treatment. As per Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Saikia is one of the patrons of Deepshikha Foundation and has rendered immense contribution towards generating awareness and early detection of cancer in Assam and north-east.
Sarma also announced the recipients' names for the second highest civilian award 'Assam Saurav' and 'Assam Gaurav'. All the awards will be given at a function around the middle of this year.
Krishna Roy for art and culture, Gilbert Sangma and Nayanmoni Saikia for sports, Dr Binoy Kumar Saikia for science and Dr Sashidhar Phukan for healthcare and public service will receive the 'Assam Saurav' award.
A total of 15 eminent personalities have been selected for conferring the 'Assam Gaurav' award this year.

Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award: Guyana President, among Awardees

Guyana's President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, US-based businessman Darshan Singh Dhaliwal, and DSB Group CEO Piyush Gupta are among 21 recipients of the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA).
Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award is the highest honour conferred on overseas Indians during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, which will be held this time between January 8 and 10 in Indore.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award is conferred by the President of India as part of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award was constituted by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India in conjunction with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Non-Resident Indian Day). Since 2016, the Government of India doubled the number of awardees each year to 30 after a decision to grant the award once every two years.
It was awarded for the first time in 2003.

César Film Awards Ban Nominees Investigated for Sexual Violence

France's version of the Oscars announced it will ban anyone facing a potential prison sentence for sexual assault from its 2023 ceremony.
The César Awards are due to be held next month.
It means the ceremony will exclude French actor Sofiane Bennacer, who is under investigation for allegations of rape which he denies.
The César Academy, which distributes the awards, removed Mr. Bennacer from the list of nominations in November 2022, and is considering a rule change around eligibility.
Now it has announced that anyone being investigated for violent crimes punishable by imprisonment, especially those of a sexual nature - will be barred from attending this year's ceremony on 25th February.

IACP 2022 Award: Chhattisgarh Police's 'Nijaat' Campaign Gets International Recognition

International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the US-based international organisation selected the anti-drug & illicit liquor campaign 'Nijaat' of Chhattisgarh police for 'Leadership in Crime Prevention' in the institutional category.
Early this year, the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), an organisation of the Ministry of Home Affairs included the Nijaat (meaning Riddance or Liberation) campaign among the thirty best smart-policing campaigns in the country.
The campaign was launched by the Chhattisgarh police under the leadership of the IPS officer Santosh Kumar Singh who pioneered the drive with intensified efforts in districts of Korea, Rajnandgaon and presently continuing in Korba.

Rajasthan Govt. Receives Award for 'Effective Government Communication'

Rajasthan Government's Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) was honoured with the "Effective Government Communication Award" for taking public welfare schemes through digital media to the general public and the beneficiaries.
The award was given by the Public Relations Society of India (PSRI) in Bhopal.
Governor of Madhya Pradesh Mangubhai Patel presented the award to Arun Joshi, Additional Director, DIPR at the 44th Annual Convention of PSRI.
