Kathak Legend and Choreographer Kumudini Lakhia Dies

Eminent Kathak exponent and choreographer Kumudini Lakhia passed away at the age of 95 due to an age-related ailment.
Born in 1930, in Ahmedabad, Lakhia became a celebrated Indian Kathak dancer and choreographer. At Kadamb Centre, she developed the technique, vocabulary and repertoire of Kathak dance.
Lakhia won numerous prestigious awards, such as Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Kalidas Samman, and Gaurav Puraskar from the Gujarat government in recognition of her contribution to the world of Indian dance.

Padma Shri Awardee Daripalli Ramaiah Passes Away

Daripalli Ramaiah, a prominent environmentalist known as "Vanajeevi" or "Chettu Ramaiah," passed away at the age of 87 in Telangana. Ramaiah was widely recognised for planting over one crore saplings across the district over several decades, earning him national acclaim as a green crusader. He was honoured with the Padma Shri Award in 2017 for his contribution to environmental conservation.
Ramaiah strongly believed that human survival is impossible without nature and the environment. He dedicated his life to planting trees and promoting ecological awareness, inspiring countless others to join the cause.

Former India Basketball Captain Hari Dutt Kapri Dies

Ace basketball player and former captain of the Indian team Hari Dutt Kapri passed away at the age of 83.
It was under his stewardship that the Indian basketball team rose from the 7th to the 4th position in Asia in the year 1969.
The Indian basketball team recorded a series of consecutive victories under his captaincy from 1965 to 1978.
He was conferred with the Arjuna award in 1969. He was also honoured with a lifetime achievement award by the Uttarakhand government.

Padma Shri Awardee Ram Sahay Panday Passes Away

Padma Shri Ram Sahay Pandey, a legendary figure in Rai folk dance, passed away at 92. Pandey's contributions to Rai dance left a lasting impact. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav paid tribute, recognising his dedication to folk art and global recognition of Rai dance.
Pandey's artistic journey took him across borders, as he represented India on global stages. He founded the Bundelkhandi Lok Nritya Natya Kala Parishad, an organisation dedicated to nurturing and promoting the cultural essence of the economically backward Bundelkhand region.
In 1980, he was honoured with the title 'Nritya Shiromani' and appointed to the Tribal Folk Art Council by the Madhya Pradesh government.

Veteran Bollywood Actor Manoj Kumar Passes Away

Veteran actor Manoj Kumar, known for his roles in patriotic films such as Purab Aur Paschim and Kranti, died at the age of 87 in Mumbai.
Kumar debuted in Bollywood in 1957 with the film Fashion. He then got his break in Kanch Ki Gudiya (1961), where he acted with Sayeeda Khan.
Kumar won the Best Director award at the Filmfare Awards in 1975 for his movie Roti Kapada Aur Makaan.
Kumar was conferred the title of Padma Shri in 1992, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
