Paris Olympics 2024 Closing Ceremony: Manu Bhaker Named India's Flag Bearer

Ace shooter Manu Bhaker was named India's flag bearer at the Paris Olympics 2024 closing ceremony on August 11. Manu created history in the French capital city by winning two medals in a single edition, becoming the first athlete from the country to achieve this feat. Although the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) named her the female flag bearer, they are yet to name the men's flag bearer.

Fan Zhendong Wins the Men's Singles TT title at the Paris Olympics

Table tennis world order was restored after China's Fan Zhendong beat Sweden's World No. 26 Truls Moregard 4-1 (7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8) to win the men's singles title at the Paris Olympics in a match that saw the 22-year-old Swede win the first game, play a snake shot when down 2-9 in the fifth and engage in at least seven reel-worthy rallies of the highest quality.

Noah Lyles Claims Paris Olympics 100m Gold

Noah Lyles was crowned the fastest man on the planet after a remarkable photo finish, which handed him a gold medal in the 100m sprint race at the Paris Olympics.
In what was one of the tightest races in the 100m event at the Olympics, Noah Lyles pipped Kishane Thompson to the gold medal by five-thousandths of a second. Both the runners clocked 9.79 while Fred Kerley came in third, posting a time of 9.81 to get the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, defending champion Marcell Jacobs ended fifth with a season best timing of 9.85 seconds.
Noah Lyles thus became the first American sprinter to win an Olympic gold medal in the blue riband men's 100m race since Athens 2004 Olympics. The last American man to win the 100m race was Justin Gatlin.

Premier League Next Generation Cup: Punjab FC Beat Aston Villa FC 2-0 to Round off Campaign

Indian sides wrapped up the Premier League Next Generation Cup 2024 campaign with Punjab FC securing a 2-0 victory against Aston Villa FC on the final day of the competition. Muthoot FA and East Bengal FC finished sixth and eighth respectively, but Punjab FC earned a podium finish and won the hearts on the back of consecutive wins against Everton FC and Aston Villa FC.

Lakshya Sen Becomes First Indian to Enter Semi-finals of Men's Singles in the Olympic Games

Lakshya Sen advanced closer to winning his first Olympic medal, making history as the first Indian male shuttler to reach the semi-finals at the Olympics.
He beat Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien Chen 19-21, 21-15, 21-12 in a neck-to-neck three-game match at the Paris Olympics 2024.
The victory sets up Sen for a semifinal encounter against the winner of the match between 2021 World Champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore and Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark.

Swapnil Kusale Wins India's Third Shooting Bronze at Paris Olympics

Swapnil Kusale the 28-year-old from Kolhapur, won a bronze medal in the men's 50m 3P final at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre in Paris Olympics.
Last year (2023), Kusale was in the lead in the 50m 3P final in Hangzhou Asian Games before a 7.6 in standing series saw him finish fourth. But the Indian paired up with Akhil Sheoran and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar to win the gold.

Simone Biles Inspires USA to Olympic Gold

Simone Biles won the fifth Olympic gold of her legendary career as she led the United States to an emphatic victory in the women's gymnastics team final, as Daniel Wiffen made Irish history in swimming.
Wiffen was in tears on the podium at La Defense Arena after becoming the first Irishman ever to win an Olympic swimming gold.
He powered home in the 800m freestyle in 7min 38.19sec, the fifth-fastest time ever, ahead of American defending champion Bobby Finke and Tokyo silver medallist Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy.

North Korea Wins First Olympic Medal in Eight Years with Table Tennis Silver

North Korea won its first Olympic medal in eight years in Paris but had to settle for silver after defeat in mixed-doubles to table tennis superpower China.
China arrived in Paris as the world's undisputed table tennis kings, having won 32 of the 37 available gold since it became an Olympic sport.
