University of Southampton Appoints Prof Eloise Phillips as Academic Provost for New Delhi Campus

  • The University of Southampton announced the appointment of Professor Eloise Phillips as Academic Provost for the New Delhi campus. She will take up the post in May and will welcome the first students in August.
  • She has played an important role in establishing the University of Birmingham's flagship campus in Dubai where she is currently Head of Health, Wellbeing, and Human Science programmes. Previous to this, Eloise was an Associate Dean at Aston University.

Ajmer Hosts First-Ever All India Transgender Conference

  • Ajmer became the venue for the first-ever All India Kinnar Mahasammelan, a historic 10-day transgender conference held at a private school in Vaishali Nagar. The event, which began on February 17, 2025, with the Khichdi Tulai ritual, is aimed at addressing issues faced by the transgender community across India. The conference is organised in memory of Anita Bai, the mentor of Gaddipati Saloni Nayak, a respected figure in Ajmer's transgender community.
  • Attended by over 2,000 transgender members from various states, the event is deeply rooted in religious and cultural traditions.

IISc, IIT Delhi, Madras Figure in THE World Reputation Rankings 2025

  • Four Indian universities figured in the list of the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation Rankings 2025. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru is among the best performers from India. The other three include the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, IIT Madras, and Shiksha 'O" Anusandhan.
  • All the Indian institutes saw a drop in their rankings, compared to one released in 2023. While IISc, which was ranked 101-125, is now ranked at 201-300. IIT Delhi and IIT Madras, which now rank at 201-300 respectively, were ranked 151-175 and 176-200 respectively in the 2023 edition. Shiksha 'O' Anusandhan is the new entrant this year and is ranked at 201-300.  IIT Bombay which was among the list of THE World Reputation Rankings in 2023 ranking 151-175, is not on the list anymore.
  • The Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings 2025 reveals the top universities for academic reputation and prestige globally. This year, 300 institutions from 38 countries and territories were ranked based on six performance indicators for the first time – research vote count, teaching vote count, research pair-wise comparison, teaching pair-wise comparison, research voter diversity, and teaching voter diversity.
  • Harvard University remains number one for the 14th consecutive year in THE World Reputation Rankings. Oxford University is now joint second – the highest position for a UK institution since 2015. Oxford is ranked second with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Dharmendra Pradhan Celebrates Hindu College's 126th Founder's Day

  • On the occasion of Hindu College's 126th Founder's Day, Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan attended the event in New Delhi, highlighting the college's exceptional legacy in shaping India's intellectual, cultural, and national identity. Pradhan interacted with students, faculty, and staff members and visited an exhibition on Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, engaging with innovative ideas, prototypes, and business models. He expressed optimism that these young talents would lead the way for future innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation. The event also saw him reflect on the college's foundation, and its future role in India's national development.

At 27th Position, ISB Leaves IIMs behind to Rank in FT's MBA B School Rankings 2025

  • The Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad is the best management college in India and 27th globally in the Financial Times (FT) rankings of MBA 2025. Of the total 100 B schools, 8 of them are from India. Last year, only 6 Indian business schools secured a spot in the FT rankings of MBA.
  • The rank of the ISB improved this year as against 31 in 2024 and 39 in 2023. The three-year average rank of the Institute is 32. It stood at 4 for the alumni network.
  • Other institutes that secured spots are IIM-Ahmedabad at 31, IIM-Bangalore at 57, IIM-Calcutta at 61, and IIM Lucknow 71.
  • Additionally, this year two new IIMs joined the list IIM-Indore at 69, Kozhikode campus which ranked 86 in MBA.

One-year BEd, MEd Courses to Return in 2026, 2-year and 4-year Options to Continue

  • The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is bringing back the one-year BEd and MEd programmes from 2026-27, almost 10 year after extending them to two years. The decision is part of new draft regulations, which were recently approved and will soon be opened for public feedback.
  • The one-year BEd programme will be available only to candidates who have completed a four-year degree or a postgraduate programme. Those with a three-year graduation will still need to opt for the existing two-year BEd course.
  • Similarly, the one-year MEd programme will be full-time, while a two-year part-time MEd will be introduced for working professionals like teachers and education administrators.

Axis Bank Pledges Rs. 104 Crore to Ashoka University for Research Growth

  • In a major boost to interdisciplinary research in India, Axis Bank has committed Rs. 104 crore to Ashoka University over the next four years. The funding aims to strengthen the university's PhD and Post-Doctoral programs while enhancing its research capabilities in Neurosciences, Behavioral Studies, and Physics. This partnership, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), is expected to create new opportunities for students and researchers while addressing critical global challenges.

IIT Mumbai and IIT Mandi Top Social Media Rankings as the most Influential Indian Schools

  • In the list of most influential institutions of India, IIT-Mumbai and IIT-Mandi emerged as the top achievers. In the HEI (Higher Education Institution) Success Stories and 'know Your Instituions' campaigns, these institutions secured the top spots on the basis of the popular vote. These institutions leverage the digital space to reach worldwide.
  • With over 27 lakh impressions, including Facebook and other social media platforms, the campaign of success stories shows the rising interest in the higher education landscape of India.
  • IIT Mumbai led Higher Education Institutions success stories with 1.5 lakh impressions, followed by IIM-Sirmaur (1.38 lakh), School of Planning and Architecture, Vijaywada (1.35 lakh), IIT-Hyderabad and NIT Goa (1.33 lakh), These institutions surpassed bigger names, including the IISc Bengaluru, IIT Madras, and IIM Shillong.
  • IIT Mandi led the Know Your Institutions campaign, followed by NIT Goa and IIM Sambalpur.
