Telangana Govt. to Observe Sept 17 as Integration Day

  • Telangana government decided to observe September 17 as Telangana National Integration Day. September 17 is the day erstwhile Hyderabad State under Nizam rule merged with the Indian Union in 1948.
  • On September 17, KCR, as Rao is also known, would hoist the national flag in a public garden and address the people while the Ministers and other public representatives would do the same at their respective centres.

International Day of Charity

  • The International Day of Charity is observed on September 5, as declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012. It was established with the aim of sensitising people, NGOs, and stakeholders to help those in need by participating in philanthropic activities. Doing so would create social bonding.
  • The date, September 5 was chosen to commemorate the death anniversary of Mother Teresa. She received Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for "work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace."

Teachers' Day (India)

  • In India Teachers' Day is celebrated every year on September 5 to recognise and celebrate the works of educators including teachers, researchers and professors in India. Teachers' Day marks the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Born on September 5, 1888, Dr. Radhakrishnan was the first Vice-President of India and the second President of India. Dr. Radhakrishnan is well-known for his notable work as a teacher, philosopher and scholar. Since 1962, September 5 has been celebrated as Teachers' Day in India to honour Dr. Radhakrishnan's remarkable approach toward education and students.
  • The theme for Teachers' Day 2022 was 'Leading in crisis, reimaging the future.'

Skyscraper Day

  • Every year, September 3 is observed as Skyscraper Day 2021. Across the globe, skyscrapers have defined people's vivid imagination and creativity.
  • Skyscrapers Day is celebrated every year on September 3, on the birth anniversary of Louis H. Sullivan, often called the 'father of modern skyscrapers'. This name was coined in the 1880s for the high rise buildings of the United States.

World Coconut Day

  • World Coconut Day is celebrated on September 2. The day is observed to emphasise and spread knowledge of the value and advantages of coconuts. It also ranks among the most consumed fruits worldwide. The coconut plant (and its various parts) is one of nature's most versatile products, with uses ranging from food and drink to cosmetic preparations and decorating. Coconut is a member of the drupe family and is mostly found in tropical countries. This fruit is most popular in the Asian-Pacific region.
  • The inaugural world coconut day was observed on September 2, 2009, by the Asia Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) to draw attention to the value of coconuts and their influence on society.
  • The International Coconut Community selects the World Coconut Day themes. The World Coconut Day theme for 2022 was "Growing Coconut for a Better Future and Life".

National Nutrition Week

  • In India, the first week of September (1 to 7) is celebrated as National Nutrition Week. The purpose of this week is to raise awareness among the general public about the value of healthy eating practices and proper nutrition for upholding a healthy lifestyle. A balanced diet and an active, healthy lifestyle are required for this. The government launches programmes to promote nutrition awareness throughout this week.
  • The National Nutrition Week was established in 1975 by the members of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), now known as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This week was set aside to raise awareness among the general public of the value of good nutrition and the need for an active lifestyle.
  • Every year, as part of National Nutrition Week, the government introduces a special theme. The theme for National Nutrition Week 2022 is 'Celebrate a World of Flavors'.

Aavas Financiers Ltd Wins the Best NBFC Award at FE India's Best Banks Award'22

  • Jaipur head quartered Housing finance company (NBFC – HFC), Aavas Financiers Limited ("Aavas") was awarded the Best Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) for the year 2020-21 in Financial Express India's Best Banks Awards 2022. The glittering ceremony took place at ITC Grand Central, Mumbai, with the Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman as the Chief Guest.
  • This time, the committee recognized winners from NBFC and Fintech space as well. The evaluation process was rigorous and the winners were selected by an eminent jury Chaired by S. Ramadorai, Former Vice-Chairman, TATA Consultancy Services. The other members were Amit Chandra, Chairman, Bain Capital, B Mahapatra, Former Executive Director, Reserve Bank of India and Chairman, NPCI, R Shankar Raman, Director and Group CFO, Larsen and Toubro, Amit Tandon, Managing Director, IIAS India and Sharad Sharma, Founder, iSPIRT.

National Small Industry Day

  • The country observes the National Small Industry Day every year on August 30 to recognise the importance and contribution of the small-scale businesses in India. The small-scale sector plays a key role and is a major growth indicator in the Indian economy. The National Small Industry Day is celebrated across the country to encourage the development and growth of the sector that contributes as much as 40 per cent to the gross industrial value of the country's economy.
  • The advent of the National Small Industry Day can be traced back to August 2000 when the government formulated a comprehensive policy package for small-scale industries (SSI) in India. On August 30, it was decided by the Ministry of Small-Scale Industries that the very day would be observed as SSI Day.

International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances

  • International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances is marked every year on August 30 to honour and pay tribute to people who have faced enforced disappearances. Global organisations UN and Amnesty International observe this day to raise awareness about how enforced disappearance is a crime and should not be used as a tool to deal with situations of conflict. According to the UN, more than 6,000 people were registered as missing in Kosovo since 1999. Hence, the resource centre for missing persons in Kosovo has also been initiated by the UN.
  • On December 21, 2010, the United Nations General Assembly officially proclaimed August 30 as the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances.
