Navin Chawla, Former Chief Election Commissioner, Passes Away

  • Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Navin Chawla, who oversaw the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, passed away in Delhi. He was 79.
  • A retired 1969-batch IAS officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, he assumed office as an election commissioner in May 2005, and served in that role till April 20, 2009, after which he served as Chief Election Commissioner till July 29, 2010.

Narendra Chapalgaonkar, Retired Judge of the Bombay High Court Passes Away

  • Narendra Chapalgaonkar, a retired judge of the Bombay High Court and a respected author, passed away at the age of 87. He was a significant figure in the Marathwada region, known for his contributions to literature, law, and social thought.   • He had won the national award for the best male playback singer in 1986. In 2020, he was conferred with the J C Daniel Award in recognition for his contributions to Malayalam cinema. He had also won state film awards in Kerala five times and two times in Tamil Nadu.
