Navin Chawla, Former Chief Election Commissioner, Passes Away

Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Navin Chawla, who oversaw the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, passed away in Delhi. He was 79.
A retired 1969-batch IAS officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, he assumed office as an election commissioner in May 2005, and served in that role till April 20, 2009, after which he served as Chief Election Commissioner till July 29, 2010.

Narendra Chapalgaonkar, Retired Judge of the Bombay High Court Passes Away

Narendra Chapalgaonkar, a retired judge of the Bombay High Court and a respected author, passed away at the age of 87. He was a significant figure in the Marathwada region, known for his contributions to literature, law, and social thought. As a distinguished judge, academic, and author, he left a lasting legacy in the fields of law, literature, and social history.
Chapalgaonkar had a deep interest in philosophy, social history, politics, and the judiciary, and authored numerous books on these subjects. One of his most notable works was the biography of Swami Ramanand Tirtha, a freedom fighter and leader of the Hyderabad liberation struggle.
Chapalgaonkar received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Maharashtra Foundation, among other honours, recognising his contributions to literature and society.

Denis Law, Manchester United & Scotland Legend, Dies

Denis Law, the iconic Scottish footballer renowned for his prolific goal-scoring and charismatic presence, passed away at the age of 84. Affectionately dubbed "The King" and "The Lawman," Law's illustrious career left an indelible mark on both Manchester United and the Scotland national team.
He began his professional career with Huddersfield Town in 1956, where his talent quickly became evident. In 1960, he moved to Manchester City for a British record transfer fee of £55,000, showcasing his goal-scoring prowess. A subsequent transfer to Torino in 1961 further highlighted his versatility and adaptability in European football.
On the international stage, Law earned 55 caps for Scotland between 1958 and 1974, scoring 30 goals—a record he shares with Kenny Dalglish. He represented Scotland in the 1974 FIFA World Cup, further cementing his status as a national icon.

P. Jayachandran, affectionately known as "Bhava Gayakan," was a celebrated playback singer whose voice resonated deeply with emotions such as love, devotion, and longing. He passed away at the age of 80 after a prolonged illness. Known for his soulful renditions across multiple languages, Jayachandran's death has left an irreplaceable void in the Indian music industry.
His extensive contribution to the world of music spanned over six decades, with more than 16,000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. His passing is mourned by music lovers and fans alike, with tributes pouring in from across the nation.

Eminent playback Singer P. Jayachandran Passes Away

Renowned playback singer P. Jayachandran, affectionately called 'Bhava Gayakan' for his soulful renditions that beautifully expressed emotions such as love, longing, and devotion died. He was 80.
The singer recorded over 16,000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi in a career spanning over five decades.
He had won the national award for the best male playback singer in 1986. In 2020, he was conferred with the J C Daniel Award in recognition for his contributions to Malayalam cinema. He had also won state film awards in Kerala five times and two times in Tamil Nadu.
