Air India, BIAL Sign Agreement to Develop Bengaluru Airport as Hub

Air India and Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) signed a pact to develop the Bengaluru airport as an aviation hub, encompassing the construction of a dedicated domestic lounge, expansion of international services, and establishment of a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility.
Air India (along with other Tata Group airlines – AIX and Vistara) and BIAL will collaborate to enhance international connectivity, operational efficiency, and passenger experience over the next five years.
Air India is wholly owned by the Tata Group, while AIX Connect and Air India Express are its wholly-owned subsidiaries. Vistara, a 51:49 joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, is currently undergoing a merger into Air India. The Bengaluru airport is operated by Fairfax-run BIAL.

Manohar International Airport in Goa Launches Digi Yatra System

The Manohar International Airport in Mopa, Goa, became the 14th airport in India to launch the Digi Yatra system. This biometric-enabled system uses facial recognition technology to automate the entry and verification of passengers at various airport checkpoints, making the travel experience more seamless and convenient. The Digi Yatra system is already operational in 13 other Indian airports, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Varanasi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai, among others.
The Digi Yatra system allows passengers to link their Aadhaar number to a Digi Yatra ID on their mobile app. At the airport, they can simply scan their boarding pass, and the facial recognition system will confirm their identity, allowing them to proceed through security and boarding without manual checks.
This system aims to reduce waiting times, quicken processing times, and simplify procedures for passengers. It is an initiative of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to make air travel more secure and hassle-free.

MakeMyTrip and Singapore Tourism Board Ink MoU

MakeMyTrip and Singapore Tourism Board entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to encourage Singapore as a key destination for Indian travellers.
Singapore Tourism Board and MakeMyTrip will collaborate on initiatives and campaigns aimed at increasing inbound travel to Singapore in 2024. Singapore's tourism board will also leverage MakeMyTrip's market expertise to create exclusive holiday packages tailored for Indian consumers.

Japan Rolls Out e-visas for Indian Tourists

Indians travelling to Japan can now obtain e-visas instead of actual passport stickers as Japan started issuing e-visas for Indian tourists. The Japan Visa Application Centre of VFS Global is now open to Indian citizens who wish to travel to Japan.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, e-visa will be a single-entry short-term stay (up to 90 days) visa for the purpose of tourism. While for other reasons, the travellers would still have to apply for visas on paper at Japanese embassies and consulates.
The e-visa facility is now accessible to nationals from Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, USA, China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea and India.

Uttarakhand Tourism Department Launches Helicopter Services for Adi Kailash, Om Parvat Worship

A group of tourists from Delhi, Maharashtra, Orissa and Gujarat among other states completed the first trip of Adi Kailash and Om Parvat worship through a helicopter package launched by the Uttarakhand tourism department.
The initiative is aimed at promoting Winter Tourism in the Himalayan hinterland under the Vibrant Village program, and providing employment opportunities to the locals.
The package includes pickup and drop services from hotels in Pithoragarh, a 2-hour helicopter ride covering aerial darshan of Adi Kailash, Om Parvat and other peaks followed by breakfast.
