Goa Set to Bring New Tourism Bill that Will Curb Touts, Keep Tourists Safe

  • A tourism safety force with powers to arrest and impose fines for 'touting', a 'sustainability' fee for tourism enterprises and incentives for sustainable tourism —are among some of the changes proposed in a draft tourism bill that the state government plans to introduce in the monsoon session of the state legislative assembly next month (July 2024).
  • Called 'The Goa Tourism Promotion, Management and Regulation Bill, 2024', the stated aim of the proposed law, drafted by the state's department of tourism, is to consolidate and amend the laws applicable to tourism and to "protect, preserve and retain the natural and cultural heritage of the state to ensure that it remains a destination of choice for tourists".
  • The proposed draft Bill seeks to repeal two existing legislations that govern state tourism — The Goa, Daman and Diu Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982 and The Goa Tourist Places (Protection and Maintenance) Act, 2001.

India-IORA Cruise Tourism Conference Concludes in New Delhi

  • The two day India-IORA Cruise Tourism Conference concluded in New Delhi on June 14. Officials and experts from the Indian Ocean Rim Association, IORA Member States including Bangladesh, Kenya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Seychelles and Tanzania participated in the Conference.
  • The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) is a dynamic inter-governmental organisation aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and sustainable development within the Indian Ocean region through its 22-member states and 10 dialogue partners. 
  • IORA-India Cruise Tourism Conference aims to foster cooperation, knowledge sharing, and strategic partnerships to maximise the potential of cruise, coastal, and marine tourism within the IORA region. The objective of the Conference is to bring together government and business stakeholders from IORA Member States and Dialogue Partners working in the Indian Ocean Region cruise tourism sector and related sectors.
  • Officials and experts from the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Member States including Bangladesh, Kenya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Seychelles and Tanzania participated.

Madhya Pradesh CM Inaugurates PM Shri Tourism Air Service from Bhopal

  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav launched an intra-state air service to promote tourism from Raja Bhoj International Airport in the state capital Bhopal. It is called 'PM Shri Paryatan Vayu Seva' and the first flight was flagged off from the capital Bhopal to Jabalpur. The service operated by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB) with two aircraft will connect eight cities across the State- Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Khajuraho, Ujjain, Rewa, and Singrauli.
  • Madhya Pradesh Tourism in partnership with M/s Jet Serve Aviation Private Limited under the PPP mode brought the 'PM Shri Tourism Air Service' to promote tourism in the state. It will connect eight cities within the state.

Rajasthan Govt. to Invest Rs. 100 Cr in Maharana Pratap Tourist Circuit

  • Bhajan Lal Sharma, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, announced an ambitious plan to develop the Maharana Pratap Tourist Circuit with an investment of Rs. 100 crore. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the Maharana Pratap Jayanti celebration in Udaipur.
  • The Maharana Pratap Tourist Circuit aims to preserve the rich historical and cultural heritage of the region by developing places associated with the life of Maharana Pratap of Mewar.
  • Under this project, the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation will establish museums, provide basic amenities for tourists, and improve overall connectivity to these significant locations.
