48th Khajuraho Dance Festival Begins

  • Madhya Pradesh Governor, Mangu Bhai Patel inaugurated the 48th 'Khajuraho Dance Festival-2022' at world-famous tourist destination Khajuraho on the occasion of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'. The event will conclude on February 26. This year (2023) a 5-km 'Dil Khel Ke Ghoomo' marathon was also organized under the banner of 'Safe Tourism Project for Women' at the event. It aimed to create a sense of security among women in tourist destinations with the slogan 'Hindustan Ke Dil Mein Aap Safe Hain'.
  • This dance festival is being organized with the joint effort of Ustad Alauddin Khan Sangeet and Kala Akademi Madhya Pradesh Sanskriti Parishad of Culture Department, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Archaeological Survey of India and District Administration Chhatarpur. It is the topmost festival of the country focusing on Indian classical dance forms, and is well known nationally and internationally.

Ujjain Breaks Ayodhya's Record with 18.8 Lakh Diyas on MahaShivaratri

  • The Ujjain city in Madhya Pradesh set a new Guinness world record by lighting 18.82 lakh diyas or earthen oil lamps.
  • About 20,000 volunteers took part in the event which was staged mainly across the banks of the Kshipra River.
  • Swapnil Dangarikar, Guinness World Records' adjudicator, said that the previous world record for the "largest display of oil lamps was set at Ayodhya during Diwali 2022 when 15.76 lakh lamps were lit. The record was now been broken in Ujjain with 18.82 lakh oil lamps being lit.
  • The diyas were to be lit for minimum five minutes which was done successfully. The event was organized by the local administration with the help of citizens' groups.

France to be Guest Country of Honour at Delhi Book Fair

  • France will be the guest country of honour at the New Delhi World Book Fair, which will open on February 25.
  • As India was the guest country of honour at Festival du Livre de Paris in April 2022, the reciprocal invitation was decided between PM Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron.
  • The 31st edition of the New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF), held for the past 50 years, is a major calendar event in the publishing world. NDWBF 2023 is scheduled from February 25 to March 5, 2023 in newly constructed Halls 2-5 GF at the centrally located Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The Fair is organised by the National Book Trust, India, an autonomous organisation of the Government of India under the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the India Trade Promotion Organisation.
  • Visitors to the book fair will have a chance to meet a delegation of sixteen authors from France, including the 2022 Nobel Laureate for Literature Annie Ernaux.

PM Modi Inaugurates Aadi Mahotsav

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Aadi Mahotsav, a mega national tribal festival, in Delhi. The programme showcases the rich and diverse heritage of tribes from across the country in over 200 stalls at the venue. Around 1000 tribal artisans are participating in the Mahotsav.
  • This year (2023), it is organised from February 16 to 27 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi.
  • The Aadi Mahotsav, which celebrates the spirit of tribal culture, crafts, cuisine, commerce and traditional art, is an annual initiative of Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Limited (TRIFED) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai after Break of Two Years

  • The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival concluded in Mumbai on February 12, 2023. The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is Asia's biggest multicultural festival. The festival took place after a break of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Every year this festival is organized in January or February. The festival is usually held at the Kala Ghoda Art district which starts from the Regal Circle at the Southern end, stretches to the Mumbai University at the northern end.
  • The festival is known for its art, architecture, performances, workshops, panel discussions and food.

Kolkata Literature Fest Begins

  • West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose and state Education Minister Bratya Basu inaugurated the 9th Kolkata Literature Festival.
  • The literary meet, held alongside the ongoing 46th International Kolkata Book Fair, had sessions in which eminent personalities from the fields of art, culture, music and politics participated.
  • The focus of the discussions was on the evolving idea of India as the nation moves into its 76th year of Independence.
  • This year, the three-day festival had two panel discussions on Indian literature from the east and northeast with powerful voices such as Dalit literature writer Manoranjan Byapari.
