Pt Prem Kumar Mallick Bags for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 2019

  • Noted classical singer and professor in the department of music and performing arts of Allahabad University (AU) Pt Prem Kumar Mallick bagged the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2019.
  • Mallick was given the award by President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi for his contributions in the field of music (Hindustani Vocal).
  • He received this award along with other artistes from across the country for the award for years 2019, 2020 and 2021 for their contributions in the field of dance, music, theatre and other performing arts announced in November 2022.

Ranbir Kapoor Wins Best Actor at the DPIFF Awards 2023

  • The DPIFF (Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards) was started in 2012. It is an independent corporate film festival. It is not the same "Dadasaheb Phalke Award" presented at the National Film Awards. The 'Dadasaheb Phalke Award' is presented in a ceremony organised by the Government of India (Directorate of Film Festivals). But the DPIFF is completely a private ceremony organised by the family members of Dadasaheb Phalke.
  • The following is a short list of winners: Film of the year: RRR, Best Film: The Kashmir Files, Best Actress: Alia Bhatt, Best Actor: Ranbir Kapoor, Critics-Best Actor: Varun Dhawan, Critics-Best Actress: Vidya Balan and Best Director: R. Balki.

Indian-Origin Karthik Subramaniam Wins National Geographic's 'Pictures of The Year' Contest

  • National Geographic unveiled the winners of its annual Pictures of The Year awards. Karthik Subramaniam, a San Francisco-based software engineer of Indian origin was named the grand prize winner for his photo titled 'Dance of the Eagles.'
  • The stunning image shows a trio of bald eagles battling for a spot on a branch in Alaska's Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. The photo was selected from nearly 5,000 entries across four categories: Nature, People, Places and Animals.
  • The photo will be featured in the May issue of National Geographic magazine alongside the publication's leading photographers and will also get a six-month digital subscription to the magazine.

'All Quiet on the Western Front' Wins 7 trophies at BAFTA Awards

  • German movie 'All Quiet on the Western Front' was the big winner at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), winning seven trophies, including best film and best director.
  • Irish black comedy 'The Banshees of Inisherin' and rock biopic 'Elvis' took four awards at the BAFTAs, which are the UK's equivalent of Hollywood's Academy Awards.
  • Hosted by Richard E. Grant, the award ceremony was held at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

  • Best Film: 'All Quiet on the Western Front'. Directed by Edward Berger, the anti-war film is based on the 1929 novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque.
  • Best Director: Edward Berger for 'All Quiet on the Western Front'.
  • Best Actor: Austin Butler for 'Elvis'.
  • Best Actress: Cate Blanchett for 'Tar'.
  • The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) was founded in 1947 as The British Film Academy, by David Lean, Alexander Korda, Carol Reed, Charles Laughton, Roger Manvell, Laurence Olivier, Emeric Pressburger, Michael Powell, Michael Balcon, and other major figures of the British film industry. In 1958, the Academy merged with The Guild of Television Producers and Directors to form The Society of Film and Television, which eventually became The British Academy of Film and Television Arts in 1976.

K. K. Shailaja Selected for 32nd Ramashramam Unneerikkutty Award

  • Former Health Minister K.K. Shailajawas was selected for the 32nd Ramashramam Unneerikkutty Award, which is annually given to individuals who have made a mark in the fields of art, literature, culture, politics, or social service by Kozhikode-based Ramashramam Trust.
  • Ramashramam Trust chairman and writer M. Mukundan said that Shailaja was selected for the award based on her services as a minister during the times of Nipah outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic, besides her services to the State in various other capacities.
  • Former Health Minister K.K. Shailaja has been selected for the 32nd Ramashramam Unneerikkutty Award, which is annually given to individuals who have made a mark in the fields of art, literature, culture, politics, or social service by Kozhikode-based Ramashramam Trust.

  • The Ramashramam Award has earlier been given to noted personalities such as A.P. Udayabhanu, V. R. Krishna Iyer, PonkunnamVarkey, Balan K. Nair, MoorkkothRamunni, K.V. Rabiya, P. Bhaskaran, M. V. Devan and O. N. V. Kurup. Actor Indrans was the recipient of the award in 2022 when it resumed after a three-year gap. Ms. Shailaja is the fourth woman to win the award ever since its inception in 1985.

Ramesh Krishnan Gets Rotary Club's Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Former India Davis Cup tennis player Ramesh Krishnan was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual awards function organised by the Rotary Club of Madras, T. Nagar (RCMT), in Chennai.
  • Tamil Nadu Tennis Association president and ace tennis player Vijay Amritraj presented the award and a citation to Mr. Krishnan. Mr. Vijay Amritraj was the recipient of the first award in 2010.
  • Golf player Uttam Singh Mundy was awarded for vocational excellence and K.V. Rangaswami, former Executive Director and Member of the Board of L&T, was honoured with the Living Legend Award.

Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2019, 2020 and 2021 Presented to 102 Artists

  • The Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and DoNER, G. Kishan Reddy presented the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (UBKYP) 2019, 2020 and 2021, in New Delhi. Sangeet Natak Akademi, the national academy of Music, Dance and Drama, and the apex body of the performing arts in the country, in the meeting of its General Council held on November 8, 2022 in New Delhi had selected 102 artists (including three joint awards) of India who have made a mark as young talents in their respective fields of performing arts for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2019, 2020 and 2021.
  • The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, given to artists up to the age of 40 years, was introduced in the year 2006 with the objective of identifying and encouraging outstanding young talents in diverse fields of the performing arts and giving them national recognition early in their life, so that they may work with greater commitment and dedication in their chosen fields. The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar carries a purse money of Rs. 25,000, an Angavastram and a plaque.
  • He was a famous Shehnai musician. He was one of the few musicians in the country to receive Bharat Ratna. Before him, musicians M. S. Subbalakshmi and Ravi Shankar were honoured with the award before him and he was the third to receive the honour.

Karnataka Bank Wins Prathista Puraskar under Digidhan Award 2021-22

  • Karnataka Bank was awarded with 'Prathista Puraskar' under 'Digidhan Awards 2021-22' by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for achieving target with highest percentage in BHIM-UPI transactions in private sector bank category.
  • Labelled as 'KBL-NxT', the bank is currently undertaking an accelerated digital drive under its transformation journey 'KBL VIKAAS 2.0'. This award is an ideal tribute to the founding fathers of this great institution as Karnataka Bank is stepping into its 100th year of its fruitful existence.
