The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2023 was awarded to Moungi Bawendi, Louis Brus and Alexei Ekimov for the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots.
Independently of each other, Ekimov and Brus succeeded in creating quantum dots, and Bawendi revolutionised the chemical production.
Quantum dots now illuminate computer monitors and television screens based on QLED technology. They also add nuance to the light of some LED lamps, and biochemists and doctors use them to map biological tissue.
Ruixiang Zhang Recipient of 2023 SASTRA Ramanujan Prize in Mathematics
Mathematician Ruixiang Zhang, an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, USA, was named the recipient of the prestigious 2023 SASTRA Ramanujan Prize. This award recognized his remarkable contributions to the field of mathematics. The prize, which includes a cash award of $10,000, will be presented during an international conference in Number Theory, held in the hometown of the renowned mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, at SASTRA University in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu during the third week of December.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics to Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne L'Huillier, for experimental methods that generate attosecond pulses of light for the study of electron dynamics in matter.
The three Nobel Laureates in Physics 2023 were recognised for their experiments, which have given humanity new tools for exploring the world of electrons inside atoms and molecules.
Pierre Agostini (Professor, The Ohio State University, Columbus, USA), Ferenc Krausz (Director at Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, Garching and Professor at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany), and Anne L'Huillier (Professor at Lund University, Sweden) demonstrated a way to create extremely short pulses of light that can be used to measure the rapid processes in which electrons move or change energy.
Sudha Murty, the First Woman to Get Global Indian Award
Sudha Murty, renowned author, philanthropist and wife of Infosys co-founder N. R. Narayana Murty, was conferred with the Global Indian Award by the Canada India Foundation.
She was conferred by Canada India Foundation at Toronto.

West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh Teachers Nominated for Global Teacher Prize 2023

Chandigarh Scientist Honoured at CSIR Foundation Day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the journey of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research which marked its 82nd Foundation Day at Bharat Mandapam, in a ceremony that also saw the presentation of the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awards for 2022.
Among recipients across seven segments of the award was Ashwani Kumar of the CSIR Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh.
Kumar was awarded in the category of biological sciences for original contributions in biofilm-induced infections involving cellulose revealing a novel mechanism in TB pathophysiology. Kumar's work has the potential to reduce the treatment time for TB patients from the current six months to one month.
Chhattisgarh Bags Three National Awards for Ayushman Bharat Scheme
Chhattisgarh received three national awards for the excellent implementation of Ayushman Bharat Scheme in the Arogya Manthan-2023 program organized in New Delhi.
In the large states category, Chhattisgarh was awarded for gender equality, 100 per cent utilisation of the funds and more than 90 per cent of the families in the state having at least one Ayushman card.
Director, Health Services and CEO of State Nodal Agency, Jaiprakash Maurya received these awards on behalf of the state in the Arogya Manthan program organized in New Delhi.
It is noteworthy that under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, AIIMS Raipur was also honoured in the program for providing facilities to patients through digital cards and digital health records. Aabha ID is being used under the Digital Health Mission, which is facilitating the patients in providing health services in OPD.
