National Vaccination Day

National Vaccination Day or National Immunisation Day is celebrated in India on March 16 every year to raise awareness about the significance of vaccines in the human body. The day is also used to pay tribute to the healthcare providers who work tirelessly to ensure the vaccination of everyone.
The history of National Vaccination Day dates back to 1995, when the government of India first established the Pulse Polio Immunisation program with an aim to eradicate polio from the country. The day commemorates the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which began in 1988, with the first dose of the oral polio vaccine being administered in India on 16 March 1995.

World Consumer Rights Day

The World Consumer Rights Day is observed annually on March 15 across the globe. As the name suggests, this day serves as a reminder of adequate information regarding the quantity, quality, purity, potency, price, and standard of the commodity including the importance of protecting consumer rights. World Consumer Rights Day empowers consumers by raising awareness about their rights and responsibilities in the marketplace. It also highlights the need for fair and ethical business practices, holding businesses accountable for upholding consumer rights.
The seeds of World Consumer Rights Day had been planted by former President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, on March 15, 1962, while addressing consumer rights before the US Congress. This was the first time a world leader spoke about consumer rights. This day was first observed on March 15, 1983, and since then, the United Nations has recognised and endorsed World Consumer Rights Day on a global scale.
The theme selected by Consumers International for World Consumer Rights Day 2024 is 'Fair and responsible AI for consumers.' This theme highlights the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at breakneck speed and the need to move quickly to ensure a fair and responsible AI future when it comes to consumer rights.

World Kidney Day

Every year, World Kidney Day is observed on the second Thursday in March. This year (2024), the special day falls on March 14.
In 2006, the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF) launched a campaign with the tagline – Are your kidneys okay? The intention was to create awareness about the importance of maintaining good kidney health and avoid health complications. Since then, World Kidney Day has been observed every year where awareness about early detection of kidney disorders and importance of kidney check-ups is raised.
The 2024 World Kidney Day campaign theme is Kidney Health for All – Advancing Equitable Access to Care and Optimal Medication Practice. The campaign aims to improve access to kidney treatment around the world.

International Day of Action for Rivers

International Day of Action of Rivers 2024 is an international event observed on March 14 all over the world every year.
It is a day that is dedicated to saving, celebrating, and creating awareness about the importance of rivers.
The International Day of Action Against Dams and For Rivers, Water and Life was adopted by the participants of the First International Meeting of People Affected by Dams in March 1997 in Curitiba, Brazil, according to internationalrivers.org. River experts from 20 countries decided that March 14 will be the 'Day of Action for Rivers'. The participants aimed to unite against the destruction of rivers, other water bodies, and the ecologically fragile watershed areas.
The theme for International Day of Action for Rivers 2024 is 'Water for All'.

September 17 'Hyderabad Liberation Day'

The Centre announced that it will celebrate September 17 every year as 'Hyderabad Liberation Day'. In a notification, the Union Home Ministry said that Hyderabad did not get independence for 13 months after India's independence on August 15, 1947 and was under the rule of the Nizams.
The region was liberated from Nizam's rule on September 17, 1948 after police action namely 'Operation Polo'.

Mauritius Day

Mauritius Day is celebrated every year on March 12. This national holiday is a time to commemorate the country's independence from Britain in 1968 and its transition to a republic in 1992.
Mauritius Day is celebrated with a colourful parade, including a military parade with the national anthem. The flag-hoisting ceremony is also part of the celebrations.
The history of Mauritius Day dates back to 1959, when British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan gave his famous 'Winds of Change' speech, outlining the British government's intention to grant independence to many of its overseas colonies, including Mauritius. This led to an increasing call for self-rule in Mauritius, and the 1966 elections resulted in a victory for an alliance of the Mauritius Labour Party and other self-rule parties.
On March 12, 1968, Mauritius was proclaimed a constitutional monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II remaining head of state. Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam also became the country's first Prime Minister. Twenty-four years later, on March 12, 1992, Mauritius was proclaimed as a republic within the British Commonwealth.

National Working Moms Day

Every year, National Working Moms Day is celebrated on March 12.
In December 2017, Working Moms of Milwaukee – a local community – was founded by a mother belonging to that area. She recognised the need to make connections with other mothers in the same area and share the problems that mothers go through. It was the start of a community that came to each other's aid and helped bring each other up. In 2020, Working Moms of Milwaukee started celebrating M arch 12 to appreciate their efforts. In 2022, they realised that they need to expand their celebrations throughout the world. They received massive support, and since then, National Working Moms Day is celebrated every year.
