India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise Begins in Uttarakhand
A joint exercise between the militaries of India and Kazakhstan seeking to enhance military capability of both sides to undertake counter-terrorism operations in a sub-conventional scenario under the norms of the UN Charter got underway.
The 8th edition of 'Exercise KAZIND' commenced at Surya Foreign Training Node, Auli in Uttarakhand.
The exercise, which has been held annually since 2016, will conclude on October 13. Last edition of this exercise was held at Otar, Kazakhstan from October 30 to November 11.
The Indian armed forces, comprising 120 personnel, are being represented by a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army, along with other arms and services, as well as personnel from the Indian Air Force.
The Kazakhstan contingent is being represented mainly by personnel from Land Forces and Air Borne Assault Troopers.
IPS Nalin Prabhat Takes Charge as DGP of J&K
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) appointed IPS Nalin Prabhat as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir. He assumed charge from October 1.
Prabhat is a 1992-batch Indian Police Service officer and has served as the NSG DG since April 2024.
He has had a distinguished career marked by multiple accolades (including three Police Gallantry Medals and the Parakram Padak).
He has an extensive background in counter-insurgency operations and previously led the Greyhounds, a highly specialised anti-Naxal unit in Andhra Pradesh.

Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh Takes Over as New Indian Air Force Chief
Ace test pilot Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh took over as the new Indian Air Force chief. He is succeeded Air Chief Marshal V. R. Chaudhari who superannuated after completing his tenure of three years.
Born in October 1964, the Air Marshal was commissioned into the fighter pilot stream of the Indian Air Force in December 1984. During his long and distinguished service spanning nearly 40 years, he has served in a variety of roles such as Command, Staff, Instructional and Foreign appointments.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College and National Defence College, the Air Officer is a Qualified Flying Instructor and an Experimental Test Pilot with more than 5,000 hours of flying experience on a variety of fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
First Memorial for Military Intelligence Heroes in Pune
India unveiled its first memorial dedicated to the Military Intelligence (MI) personnel who lost their lives in service. The memorial, called Satark Park, is located in Wanowrie, Pune cantonment in Maharashtra. Inspired by MI's motto 'Sada Satark' (always alert), the park honours MI heroes with busts and brief descriptions of their contributions.
The memorial features the busts of several decorated MI personnel, including Kirti Chakra awardees Naik Pratap Singh and Brigadier Ravi Datt Mehta, and Shaurya Chakra awardees Sepoy Om Shiv Sharma, Naik Jangbir Singh, and Havildar S Samy Kannan. It has been constructed by the Military Intelligence Training School and Depot (MITSD) with support from Roadway Solutions India Infra Ltd.
Since 1962, 40 MI personnel, including 11 officers, have died in various operations, primarily in Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern borders. Their stories, previously unpublished due to the secretive nature of their work, will now be shared with the public.

Indian Navy Gets Fifth Missile and Ammunition Barge
The Indian Navy inducted LSAM 13 missile cum ammunition barge to its fleet which is the fifth such barge made for the Indian Navy.
The delivery of Missile Cum Ammunition Barge, LSAM 13 (Yard 81) is the fifth Barge of 08 x Missile Cum Ammunition Barge project, built by MSME Shipyard, M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam for Indian Navy.
India's Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), along with researchers of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi developed Light Weight Bullet Proof Jackets named ABHED (Advanced Ballistics for High Energy Defeat).
These jackets have been created from polymers and indigenous boron carbide ceramic material.
The design configuration is based on characterisation of various materials at high strain rate followed by appropriate modelling and simulation in collaboration with DRDO.
The armor plates for the jackets have passed all necessary R&D trials as per the protocols.

The 41st Indian Coast Guard Commanders' Conference Concludes
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 41st edition of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Commanders' Conference in New Delhi. This three-day conference served as a crucial platform for ICG Commanders to engage in meaningful discussions on strategic, operational, and administrative matters amid evolving geopolitical landscapes and maritime security complexities.
Addressing the senior Commanders at the Coast Guard Headquarters, Rajnath Singh emphasised that the ICG is India's foremost guard, ensuring the security of the country's extensive coastline through constant monitoring of the Exclusive Economic Zone.
Throughout the conference, ICG Commanders interacted with senior military officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of the Naval Staff, promoting collaboration across the full spectrum of maritime security. The discussions aimed to evaluate key operational, logistical, and administrative initiatives undertaken over the past year, focusing on enhancing ICG's operational effectiveness and alignment with the government's vision of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat.'
Air Marshal S. P. Dharkar Next IAF Vice Chief
Ace fighter pilot Air Marshal S. P. Dharkar was appointed as the next Vice Chief of Air Staff.
He would be succeeding incumbent Air Marshal A. P. Singh, who has been designated as the next Chief of Air Staff.
Dharkar-- an experienced fighter pilot with over 3600 hours of flying. He is an alumnus of the Rashtriya Indian Military College Dehradun, National Defence Academy Pune, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and Air War College, USA. Commissioned in June 1985, he is a Qualified Flying Instructor, Fighter Strike Leader, and Instrument Rating Instructor and Examiner and has also been an Air Force Examiner.
He has instructional experience in conducting Professional Military Education for medium and senior level officers at the Defence Services Staff College and at the College of Air Warfare, Secunderabad.
He has served as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Training) at Air Headquarters and Air Defence Commander at Headquarters Eastern Air Command.
He has the distinction of being the first Director General of Defence Space Agency. He has been the head of Eastern Air Command for the last two years now.
