Military Medicine Department inaugurated at Lucknow

India inaugurated its first dedicated Department of Military Medicine at the Command Hospital of the Central Command in Lucknow. The department will coordinate training and research in combat medicine, trauma care and military surgery for the Armed Forces Medical Services. Officials say the unit will establish a centre of excellence for battlefield medicine, emergency care and rehabilitation, while conducting clinical research and publishing guidelines. The new department aims to boost medical readiness, attract specialists, and strengthen military medical education for on-duty personnel and veterans, aligning with broader efforts to enhance health infrastructure within defence services.

Diving Support Vessel Nipun delivered to Indian Navy

The indigenous Diving Support Vessel Nipun was delivered to the Indian Navy on 30 July 2026. It is the second vessel of its class after INS Nistar and was built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Visakhapatnam. The vessel can support deep-sea diving, underwater rescue and recovery missions, and assist submarines and naval personnel during underwater emergencies. Nipun, like Nistar, demonstrates India’s growing capabilities in indigenous defence manufacturing and shipbuilding under Make in India. The delivery complements the navy’s existing deep-sea operations and enhances its ability to respond to underwater incidents across the Indian Ocean Region.

Indian Navy launches ASW craft Machilipatnam

The Indian Navy launched Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft Machilipatnam in July 2026. It is the seventh of eight such vessels being built by Cochin Shipyard Limited. The ship is named after the historic port city of Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district. The launch was conducted by Goolrukh Anand, with Vice Admiral Atul Anand and other senior officials in attendance. Machilipatnam will enhance the Navy’s shallow‑water anti-submarine capabilities and forms part of India’s domestic shipbuilding program to strengthen maritime security.

Machilipatnam is seventh of eight ASW shallow-water crafts.

Kargil Vijay Diwas 2026 Observed Across India

Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed across India on 26 July 2026. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas programme in Dras, commemorating India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War and honouring soldiers who participated in Operation Vijay. The event included wreath-laying ceremonies at the Kargil War Memorial and reflected national gratitude for armed forces’ sacrifices. Security and ceremonial arrangements were in place at multiple venues. The day reinforces India’s commitment to national security and the valor of defence personnel who defended the nation during a difficult campaign. The observance is a recurring reminder of the country’s military history.

Danapur hosts 46th Raising Day of 21st Bihar Battalion

The 46th Raising Day of the 21st Bihar Battalion was observed in July 2026 at the Bihar Regiment Centre in Danapur Cantonment. The battalion was raised on 20 July 1981 by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mansoor Malik and has served in multiple operational deployments across India. The event highlighted the unit's historic contributions to internal security and border duties, as well as ongoing training and capability development. Senior officers emphasised the battalion's proud traditions and its role in conjunction with the broader Bihar Regiment's ongoing commitments.

Tiger Lightning 2026 drills Bangladesh and US in Sylhet

Exercise Tiger Lightning 2026 (TL-26) is an annual bilateral military exercise between the Bangladesh Army and United States Army Pacific Command (USARPAC). The 13-day drill runs from 19 July to 31 July 2026 and is hosted by the Para Commando Brigade at Jalalabad Cantonment in Sylhet, Bangladesh. More than 160 service members participate, focusing on interoperability, jungle operations, tactical casualty care, and regional security. The exercise underscores a growing defence partnership and longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and the United States, strengthening joint training and disaster-response capabilities in South Asia.

Pitch Black 2026: Multinational Air Drill Set for Australia

Pitch Black 2026, a major biennial multinational air combat exercise, will run in Australia from 20 July to 7 August 2026. The Royal Australian Air Force hosts the drill, which will bring together air forces from around 20 nations to train under challenging, high‑intensity conditions. More than 100 aircraft and thousands of personnel are expected to participate, reflecting the scale and complexity of contemporary air warfare. The exercise emphasizes air-to-air and air-to-ground operations, joint air defense, electronic warfare, and interoperability across allied forces. It aims to strengthen strategic and operational cooperation, advance tactical proficiency, and demonstrate regional security commitments. Political leadership and defence planners view Pitch Black 2026 as a key continuity event in multilateral security training.

Indian Navy to Host Southern Readiness Exercise 26-2 at Kochi

Operation Southern Readiness 26-2 will be hosted by the Indian Navy in Kochi from 20 to 23 July 2026. The four-day multinational training will take place at the Southern Naval Command and is conducted in partnership with the Combined Maritime Forces under the Indian Navy‑led Combined Task Force 154. The exercise aims to strengthen maritime security cooperation, enhance operational coordination, and improve joint training among partner navies. Participating nations will practice navigation, anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, and crisis response procedures in a complex regional security environment. The exercise underscores India’s commitment to maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region and reinforces interoperability with regional and allied navies.
