International Tea Day 2025

On May 21, the world will celebrate International Tea Day, a moment not just to sip but to assess and do some reflection. This year's theme, "Tea and Fair Trade," calls for a renewed focus on sustainability, transparency, and justice in a global tea market.
The origins of tea stretch back more than 5,000 years, but its contributions to health, culture and socioeconomic development are still as relevant today. Tea is currently grown in very localised areas, and supports over 13 million people, including smallholder farmers and their households, who depend on the tea sector for their livelihoods.
International Tea Day is an opportunity to celebrate the cultural heritage, health benefits and economic importance of tea, while working to make its production sustainable "from field to cup" ensuring its benefits for people, cultures and the environment continue for generations.

International HR Day

International HR Day, celebrated on May 20, is a global recognition of the crucial role human resources professionals play in shaping modern organizations. In 2025, the theme "HumanifyAI: Leading Change Together" reflects a timely focus on integrating artificial intelligence into HR practices while keeping people at the center of organisational growth. This year's observance emphasises the need for HR leaders to balance technological advancements with empathy, ethics, and human connection.
Promoted by the European Association for People Management (EAPM) since 2019, International HR Day encourages organisations to appreciate HR's impact on culture, talent development, employee well-being, and strategic change. As AI tools increasingly influence areas such as recruitment, performance management, and employee engagement, the 2025 theme calls on HR professionals to lead this transition with care and integrity.

World Metrology Day

World Metrology Day is celebrated annually on May 20 globally to understand the meaning of the science of measurement and the reasons behind our heavy reliance on it.
The day commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention in 1875, which established the foundations for international collaboration in the science of measurement and maintaining uniformity in measurements worldwide.
World Metrology Day was established in 1999 by the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) to commemorate the signing of the Metre Convention on 20 May 1875 in Paris. This international agreement laid the foundation for a globally unified and consistently evolving metric system.

Backed by several member states, this new observance emphasises the transformative power of sports beyond just competition — as a tool for unity, discipline, and respect.

World AIDS Vaccine Day

World AIDS Vaccine Day, also called HIV Vaccine Awareness Day, is observed worldwide on May 18 every year. The purpose of the day is to recognise the economic, social, and cultural impacts of the HIV/AIDS epidemic as well as the urgent and ongoing need for a vaccine to prevent HIV infection and AIDS.
The day began on May 18, 1997, when U.S. President Bill Clinton gave a crucial speech at Morgan State University. Bill Clinton highlighted the urgent need for a preventive HIV vaccine in this speech, saying, "Only a truly effective, preventive HIV vaccine can limit and eventually eliminate the threat of AIDS."
The first World AIDS Vaccine Day was celebrated on May 18, 1998, to mark the anniversary of Clinton's speech and to draw attention to the continued efforts and necessity for an HIV vaccine.

International Museum Day

International Museum Day, celebrated annually on May 18 in the world to raise public awareness of the invaluable role museums play in preserving artistic, cultural, and historical artifacts. This day highlights the educational and cultural contributions of museums, showcasing their importance as repositories of knowledge and history.
The first International Museum Day was organised in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). This initiative was born from a resolution aimed at creating an annual event to unite the creative efforts of museums worldwide and raise global awareness about their activities. Since its inception, museums across the globe have been invited to participate in this celebration each year. In 1992, ICOM began the tradition of adopting an annual theme, and in 1997, an international poster was introduced, embraced by 28 countries.
The International Museum Day 2025 theme is "The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities".

World Telecommunication Day

World Telecommunication Day 2025, officially known as World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is observed annually on May 17. This global event aims to raise awareness about the potential of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICTs) in transforming societies and economies. The day also underscores the critical need to bridge the global digital divide, making digital innovation inclusive and accessible for all.
The roots of World Telecommunication Day date back to May 17, 1865, when the first International Telegraph Convention was signed in Paris, leading to the establishment of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Since 1969, this day has been observed annually to commemorate ITU's foundation and its continuing contributions to global connectivity.
The World Telecommunication Day 2025 theme is "Gender Equality in Digital Transformation"
