Former hockey Olympic gold medallist Davinder Singh Garcha dies at 73

Davinder Singh Garcha, a former international hockey player who was part of India’s gold medal team at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, passed away at his home in Jalandhar at the age of 73. He reportedly suffered chest pains and had a brief hospital stay before returning home. Born December 7, 1952, in Amritsar, Garcha made his international debut at the 1979 Moscow pre-Olympic tournament and scored eight goals in six matches at the Moscow Games, where India defeated Spain 4-3 in the final. Agnivesh Agarwal, Vedanta Group director, dies at 49

Agnivesh Agarwal, 49, a director at Vedanta Group and son of metals tycoon Anil Agarwal, died after suffering a cardiac arrest following a skiing incident in the United States. Born in Patna on 3 June 1976, Agarwal studied at Mayo College in Ajmer and helped establish Fujairah Gold, a metals refinery in the UAE. He also served as chairman of Hindustan Zinc from November 2005 to February 2019, before taking charge of Talwandi Sabo Power (TSPL) in May 2019. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended condolences, noting Agarwal’s role in expanding Vedanta’s metals and energy ventures in India.
