Nobel Prize for Chemistry 2025

  • The Nobel Prize for Chemistry was awarded to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M. Yaghi for their work on metal-organic frameworks.
  • The three scientists' work could tackle some of the biggest problems on our planet, including capturing carbon dioxide to help tackle climate change and reducing plastic pollution using chemistry.
  • The three winners will share prize money of 11 million Swedish kronor (£872,000).

Nobel Prize in Physics 2025

  • Scientists John Clarke, Michel Devoret and John Martinis won the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics for 'the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation in an electric circuit', the award-giving body said.
  • This year's Nobel Prize in Physics has provided opportunities for developing the next generation of quantum technology, including quantum cryptography, quantum computers, and quantum sensors.
  • All three winners are based in the United States.
  • The Nobel physics prize is awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and includes a prize sum totalling 11 million Swedish crowns ($1.2 million) that is shared among the winners if there are several, as is often the case.

President Murmu Presents MY Bharat-National Service Scheme Awards 2022-23

  • President Droupadi Murmu presented the MY Bharat-National Service Scheme (NSS) Awards for the year 2022–23 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The awards recognise and celebrate the exceptional contributions of NSS volunteers, programme officers, and units across India for their commitment to social service, community development, and nation-building.
  • Instituted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in 1993-94, the MY Bharat-NSS Awards are conferred annually to acknowledge outstanding voluntary community service. For 2022–23, a total of 50 awards were presented – 10 NSS Units, 10 Programme Officers, and 30 NSS Volunteers – for their exemplary service and leadership. Each winning NSS Unit received Rs. 2 lakh and a trophy, Programme Officers received Rs. 1.5 lakh, a certificate, and a silver medal, while Volunteers were honoured with Rs. 1 lakh, a certificate, and a silver medal.
  • The National Service Scheme (NSS), launched in 1969 during the birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi, is one of the flagship youth programmes of the Government of India.

Nobel Prize in Medicine Goes to 3 Scientists

  • Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi won the Nobel Prize in medicine for their discoveries in peripheral immune tolerance.
  • The trio will be formally awarded the prize, officially known as the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, during a ceremony on December 10.
  • Peripheral immune tolerance is one way the body helps keep the immune system from malfunctioning and attacking your own tissues instead of foreign invaders.

Pune ZP School Wins International Award

  • A Pune Zilla Parishad school won the Community Choice award in the World's Best School prizes by T4 Education, a global educational organisation.
  • Jalindarnagar primary school won the award for the school's innovation, social impact, and student development, stated a press release issued by the Pune Zilla Parishad.
  • This ZP school in Khed taluka of Pune district transformed through community participation and is the only Indian govt-run Marathi medium institution selected for the awards. The school is particularly known for its peer learning system, where older and younger students teach each other, making learning more fun and interactive.
