World Meteorological Day is observed every year on March 23 to highlight the importance of the role that people and their behaviour play in protecting Earth's atmosphere. The day also commemorates the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which is an intergovernmental body, on March 23, 1950. According to WMO's website, the day "showcases the essential contribution of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services to the safety and wellbeing of society."
The day is celebrated to mark the establishment of WMO, which has 193 member countries and territories. The organisation originated from the International Meteorological Organization (IMO), the idea of which is rooted in the Vienna International Meteorological Congress 1873. WMO was then established by the ratification of the WMO convention in 1950 after which the organisation became a specialised agency of the United Nations (UN) in 1951. The headquarters of WMO are located in Geneva, Switzerland.
The theme of World Meteorological Day 2021 is "The Ocean, Our Climate and Weather."

India Participates in Nowruz Celebrations
The Indian Embassy in Beijing participated in the "Nowruz" which was held at the Secretariat of "Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO)" in Beijing, China. Nowruz is the Iranian and Persian New Year Festival.
The celebration was participated by the Indian Ambassador Vikram Misri, along with the diplomats of other SCO member countries which include China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and India. More than 500 guests took part in the festival. During the celebrations, the Indian embassy showcased the performances of Yoga, Kathak and Indian cuisine. On the occasion, the Indian Ambassador also planted a Pine tree sapling as a symbol of nurturing of the friendship between India and SCO.
Nowruz is the Iranian New Year which is also known as Persian New Year. The New Year starts on the spring equinox or the March equinox which is marked as the first day of Farvardin. Farvardin is the first month of Iranian solar calendar. The day is celebrated across the world by several ethno-linguistic groups. Nowruz finds its origin in the Iranian and Zoroastrian culture. But the festival is celebrated by the diverse communities for 3,000 years in the Central Asia, Western Asia, Black Sea Basin, Caucasus, Balkans and South Asia. The Nowruz has been celebrated since 11th century CE when the Iranian calendar was reformed but the United Nations officially recognized "International Day of Nowruz" in the year 2010 with the adoption of UN resolution 64/253. The timing of Nowruz in Iran is based on the Solar Hijri algorithmic calendar. It is based on the precise astronomical observations.
World Water Day
World Water Day is observed annually across the globe on March 22 with the purpose of highlighting the importance of water and raising awareness about the water crisis that the world faces. According to the United Nations (UN) website, the main focus of the day is to support the achievement of sustainable development goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
The resolution to observe World Water Day was first adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 22, 1992, after which March 22 was declared as World Water Day and is celebrated around the world since 1993.
The theme of World Water Day 2021 is "Valuing Water" and has been chosen to highlight the value of water in our daily lives. "The value of water is about much more than its price – water has enormous and complex value for our households, food, culture, health, education, economics and the integrity of our natural environment.

International Day of Forests
The International Day of Forests was established on the 21st day of March, by resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on November 28, 2012. Each year, various events celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests, and trees outside forests, for the benefit of current and future generations.
In November 1971, the "States members" at the 16th session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization, voted to establish "World Forestry Day" on March 21 of each year. From 2007-2012, the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) convened a series of six Forest Days, in conjunction with annual meetings of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of Parties. CIFOR organized these events on behalf of and in close cooperation with other members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF).
Following the International Year of Forests in 2011, the International Day of Forests was established by resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on November 28, 2012.

Ordnance Factories Day
Ordnance Factory Day is observed every year on the March 18 to commemorate the foundation of the first Ordnance Factory at Cossipore near Kolkata in 1801.
The day is celebrated by displaying the rifles, guns, artillery, ammunition in exhibitions all over India. Usually the exhibitions are open to all. The celebrations start with a parade and the exhibition also displays the photographs of various mountaineering expeditions.
The theme 2021 of Ordnance Factories Day is Vinashaya Dushkritam.

Sixth India-Brazil-South Africa Women's Forum Meeting
The Sixth India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Women's Forum meeting was held virtually on March 17. During the consultation, the Forum discussed key issues that contribute towards the transformation of women's lives.
The India-Brazil-South Africa Trilateral Cooperation Forum is a unique platform which brings together India, Brazil and South Africa, three large democracies and major economies from three different continents.
The meeting was led by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. During the meeting, the Ministers reaffirmed their commitment towards addressing gender gap and women-centric issues through mutual cooperation.
The participating countries also lauded the efforts of Government of India in helping out other countries to overcome the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic by way of providing vaccines, masks, sanitizers and PPE Kits.
Global Recycling Day
Global Recycling Day is observed every year on March 18 to create awareness among the masses about the rapid pace at which our natural resources are being used. The day promotes the concept and practice of recycling. Every year, events are organised by environmentalist and activists to promote the cause.
Global Recycling Day was created in 2018 to help recognise, and celebrate, the importance of recycling in preserving the Earth's natural resources. The main mission of Global Recycling Day, as set out by the Global Recycling Foundation, is to ask people not to waste natural resources and to tell leaders of the world about the importance of recycling. The Global Recycling Foundation, in collaboration with the United Nations, work unitedly towards these awareness programmes.
Every year, the day is observed with a particular theme. The theme of Global Recycling Day 2021 is "Recycling Heroes". Its main aim is to recognise the people, places and activities that showcase the importance of recycling in preserving natural resources.
