Artist Namboothiri, Iconic Illustrator Passes Away
Artist Namboothiri, one of the most prolific literary illustrators in the country, passed away.
During his several decades-long career, Namboothiri illustrated many popular characters for literary publications in the southern states.
A winner of the Raja Ravi Varma Award, Namboothiri is famous for his own style of line sketches.
Namboothiri's contribution stands out as he has done illustrations for almost all important literary works, starting from the 1960s to 2010.
The eminent work for which he drew his illustrations included Jnanpith Award winner M T Vasudevan Nair's famous novel 'Randamoozham'.
Born in 1925 in Kerala's Ponnani, Namboothiri entered the world of painting and sculpture in his childhood.
A disciple of renowned artist K. C. S. Paniker, he also drew inspiration from prominent painters like Debi Prasad Roy Chowdhury and S Dhanapal. He studied painting at the Madras School of Fine Arts.

Former Punjab Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh Passes Away
Former Punjab assembly deputy speaker Bir Devinder Singh passes away at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. Having started out as a leader of the All India Students' Federation (AISSF), Bir Devinder was elected MLA for the first time from Sirhind in 1980 on a Congress ticket. He later won from the Kharar assembly constituency in 2002. He served as the deputy speaker of the Vidhan Sabha between 2003 and 2004 during the Amarinder Singh-led Congress regime in Punjab. He was expelled from the Congress in 2016 and joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) in 2019. Leaders cutting across political lines expressed grief over Bir Devinder's demise.

Goodenough, co-inventor of Li-ion Batteries and Nobel Laureate Passes Away
John Bannister Goodenough, the co-inventor of lithium-ion batteries and the co-winner of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, passed away, one month before turning 101.
Goodenough's Nobel Prize co-winner, Stan Whittingham, a British-Amrican scientist was the first to find out that lithium can be held inside sheets of titanium sulphide, and Goodenough refined it with a cobalt-based cathode to come up with what we know and use today.
Goodenough also played a significant role in the development of Random Access Memory (RAM) for computers.
The Nobel Prize winner, who was born in Germany to American parents, was also instrumental in the invention of computer RAMs. Post his mathematics study at Yale University, he went on to join the US Army as a meteorologist during WWII.

Sakshi Kochhar Becomes Youngest Indian to Get Commercial Pilot License
Sakshi Kochhar became the youngest commercial pilot of India, breaking the previous record of another female pilot from India, Maitri Patel, who held the record at 19-years of age. Sakshi, born on May 30, 2005, in a small town Parwanoo, the Gateway of Himachal Pradesh, become the youngest pilot aged 18 years. Interestingly, both were trained under captain A. D. Manek, the pilot Instructor. She achieved her flying hour target within seven and half months, which coincided with her 18th birthday on May 30, 2023, when she received her commercial pilot license and became the youngest commercial pilot of India.
